Manufacturing Engineer (Component Assembly)
Responsibilities:
- Oversee all process functions, document control and continuous improvement within Heat Treat, Thermal Barrier Coating and Powder Coating
- Monitor and measure processes to ensure quality.
- Troubleshoot and maintain vacuum and atmosphere furnaces and related support equipment
- Troubleshoot and maintain thermal spray equipment
- Design tooling and oversee procurement, fabrication and implementation.
- Develop capacity and schedule plans to take products from development to production.
- Work with shift supervisors to support planning and scheduling.
- Assist and develop PFMEA’s, Control Plans and Work Instructions.
- Assist and lead problem solving teams.
- Create work instructions and specifications.
- Develop production procedures/processes.
- Measure and maintain throughput to support production rates.
- Resolve production issues related to joining, heat treating and thermal spray processes.
- Support technical decisions on issues throughout the company.
- Provide direction to technicians during production and test as necessary
- This position requires a flexible hands-on Engineer who has the range and desire to not only work on process and materials engineering issues but is also open to and used to working in a production environment and working side-by-side with technicians.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Material Science, Metallurgy, or Welding Engineering, or similar technical area of focus.
- Minimum 2 years of experience with heat treating and/or brazing of titanium, aluminum, stainless and nickel-based alloys.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Design for Manufacturability and assembly.
- Familiarity with thermal spray (plasma) coatings
- Lean manufacturing training and/or hands-on experience.
- Working knowledge of Vacuum systems, heat treating equipment and pyrometrywelding processes.
- Advanced Degree in Material Science, Metallurgy, or Welding Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or similar technical area of focus.
- Experience with technical review of materials processing and a sound understanding of the interaction between process variables and the resulting microstructure and properties.
- Participation in AWS, SAE/AMS, ASM, or ASTM committees.
- Design for Manufacturability and assembly.
- Technically well-rounded and displays a proficiency in the basic principles of chemistry, engineering, fluid dynamics and mechanics of materials.
- Design and analysis (Finite Element Analysis (FEA)/structural/static loads) experience.
- Experience with capacity modeling, process mapping, and fault analysis.
- Pareto Analysis, Root Cause and Corrective Action experience.
- Experience doing PFMEAs (preferably leading).
- 5S, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma background.
- Labview experience is a plus.
- CAD experience (NX & Teamcenter a plus).
- Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) experience.
- Passion for problem solving at any level for the good of the company.
- Capable of handling multiple projects concurrently in a fast paced environment.
- Highly self-motivated and organized with strong written and oral communication skills.
- Able to work well in an integrated team including daily interactions with technicians, engineers and managers.
