The Legal Counsel, Corporate will be a founding member of New Relic’s legal team, and will report to our General Counsel. The primary focus for this role will be on corporate securities, ’34 Act work, corporate development, and M&A work.

Working collaboratively with the finance organization, this role is responsible for handling the legal work involved in issuing the company’s earnings releases and SEC filings. This position will manage the administration of New Relic’s global corporate subsidiaries, the integration of our acquired entities, the maintenance of our minute books, the drafting of general corporate documents, and overseeing the legal work related to executive compensation and benefits. The attorney in this role will support a wide variety of departments including finance, stock administration, and investor relations.

The right candidate has exceptional judgment, strong critical thinking, and interpersonal skills to be comfortable, effective, and persuasive in dealing with senior management.

Skills and experience needed to do the job:
  • 4+ years of legal experience in a law firm or in-house.
  • Extensive experience advising on SEC regulations, compliance, and corporate governance matters
  • Excellent written, oral, and negotiation communication skills
  • Flexibility and willingness to work on a broad range of legal matters
  • Prior experience with a software or other high tech company is desirable
  • Able to handle multiple matters simultaneously and prioritize effectively
  • Evaluate issues from legal and business perspectives with a practical, business-oriented approach to problem solving
  • JD from top tier law school with excellent academic credentials and California bar member (or qualified to register as in house counsel)
