About Socratic

Socratic is a crowdsourced learning platform where anyone can ask a question and anyone can answer a question. We believe that everyone in the world should have access to great teaching, and our community is making that possible. Our mission is to make learning easier for every topic, in every language, in every learning style.

About the role

  • You’ll be the third engineer on the team.
  • You’ll be building features end-to-end: from implementing and polishing beautiful front-end experiences, to writing API calls on the back-end and deciding which new data models to create.
  • You’ll work on big new product features, as well as small tweaks to existing features. You’ll be able to deploy both as soon as they are ready.
  • All along the way, you’ll work directly with product, design, and community, and will have a say in the company’s direction.
  • As an integral part of a small team, you’ll be a mentor and student to everyone on the team. You’ll help us become a stronger, faster, and a more thoughtful team.

About you

  • You are excited about Socratic’s mission.
  • You have built and shipped products to users.
  • You have a passion for creating beautiful and simple experiences, for users of the product, and for fellow engineers.
  • You have built for mobile platforms, whether iOS, Android, or mobile web.
  • You exercise sound judgment and understand the balance between moving fast and writing maintainable code.
  • You are not tied to specific technologies, and are excited to learn new tools, ideas, and approaches.
  • You understand, and have experience dealing with, the many layers of a modern web stack.
  • You can rapidly prototype new ideas, and are comfortable working in a fast-moving, iterative, environment.
  • You have deep experience with one or more of: Python, Javascript, Ruby, or Go.
