Multi-Body Dynamics Engineer
Responsibilities:
- Perform stage separation, booster separation, and vehicle performance trades
- Run basic ascent trajectory simulations for structural and thermal optimization
- Evaluate effect of propulsion, GNC and structural configuration decisions on resulting launch vehicle and spacecraft dynamics
- Serve a systems engineering function by integrating inputs and providing outputs from or to multiple internal SpaceX disciplines
Basic Qualifications:
- Undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline
- Basic understanding of orbital mechanics
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Minimum 3 years work experience associated with multi-body dynamics
- Proficient with LS-DYNA
- Experience using POST (Program to Optimized Simulated Trajectories) or equivalent ascent modeling software
- Understanding of and participation in vehicle design at a system level
- Working knowledge of structural analysis and test, including a fundamental understanding of strength, stability and fatigue failure mechanisms.
- A “can do” attitude and the ability/enthusiasm necessary to work in a unique, fast-paced environment
ITAR Requirements:
- To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, applicant must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
