Associate Buyer, R&D Hardware

Overview:

The Hardware Associate Buyer is a critical player in our Purchasing Department. Under limited supervision, is assigned to support SpaceX’s Engineering Team through the purchase of Hardware such as springs, fasteners, fittings, bearing, and in various aspects of procurement.  Processes and/or confirms purchase orders, blanket orders, and contracts and conducts follow up as requested by Buyers. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Lead the R&D Purchasing Strategy for Hardware
  • Manage overall supplier relationships including supplier selection, day-to-day communications, and issue resolution
  • Work with Engineering on finding new suppliers that are aligned with the Purchasing Strategy
  • Execute to requests from Engineering for placement of purchase orders for R&D parts
  • Follow-up with supplier to obtain acknowledgement of purchase orders and promise dates for new purchase orders
  • Proactively provide updates to SpaceX management and engineering team on all critical supply issues
  • Expedite part numbers that will negatively impact the R&D schedule
  • Conduct regular scorecard reviews with key suppliers
  • Resolve invoices issues that are impacted by the purchase order
  • Maintain current supplier contact information

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial/Manufacturing Engineering, or Supply Chain
  • Minimum 1 year prior Buyer experience (internship qualifies)

 

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Demonstrated success with managing a project/program to completion
  • Advanced Excel knowledge and/or programming experience. Experience with SQL is a plus.
  • Effective written, verbal and presentation communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Remarkable problem solving skills.
  • Exceptional analytical and organizational skills.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be detail-oriented, self-motivated and able to respond quickly to a fast-moving and ever-changing environment.
  • Ability to learn quickly and prioritize appropriately to meet customer and company needs.
  • Conducts all activities with the highest of integrity.
