Associate Buyer

Overview:

 The SpaceX Finance Department is a critical player in our operations. To capitalize on our technical and market success, our team will execute large-scale projects that will define the bottom-line for the company. The functions within the department include accounting, controls, budgets, supply chain, purchasing and oversight of all financial operations. As SpaceX becomes the overall market leader, they will position us to maximize valuation, fuel growth and ensure achievement.

Responsibilities

Overall responsibilities are to support the SpaceX Production team through the purchase of Commercial off the Shelf (COTS) Hardware.  Responsibilities include the following:

  • Lead the Production Purchasing Strategy for COTS Hardware
  • Manage overall supplier relationships including supplier selection, day-to-day communications, and issue resolution
  • Execute to MRP Planning messages for placement of purchase orders for production parts
  • Follow-up with supplier to obtain acknowledgement of purchase orders and promise dates for new purchase orders
  • Act as escalation point for part shortages and lead escalation meetings with suppliers to develop recovery plan
  • Proactively provide updates to SpaceX management and engineering team on all critical supply issues
  • Expedite part numbers that will negatively impact the Production schedule
  • Conduct regular scorecard reviews with key suppliers
  • Resolve invoices issues that are impacted by the purchase order
  • Maintain current supplier contact information
  • Work with supplier on long term agreements

 

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or Supply Chain
  • Prior Purchasing Experience (internship qualifies)
  • Demonstrated success with managing a project/program to completion

 

Preferred skills and Experience:

  • Advanced excel knowledge and/or programming experience
  • Effective written, verbal and presentation communication skills.
  • Ability to learn quickly and prioritize appropriately to meet customer and company needs.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Conducts all activities with the highest of integrity.
  • Exceptional analytical and organizational skills.
  • Remarkable problem solving skills.

 

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be detail-oriented, self-motivated and able to respond quickly to a fast-moving and ever-changing environment.
