Apprentice CNC Machinist

Responsibilities:

  • General clean-up and maintenance of work areas and machine shop
  • Assist with machine shop equipment as needed
  • Moving heavy equipment
  • Driving forklifts
  • Must adhere to proper safety guidelines at all times
  • Grind, file, or sand surfaces of metal items, utilizing a variety of hand tools, power tools, and machines
  • Examination of surfaces in order to find defects
  • Removal of defects and smoothing of uneven surfaces
  • Miscellaneous tasks as directed

Basic Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • An apprentice should have at least 2 years of Lathe/Mill Set-Up experience.
  • Applicant must have good math skills and be familiar with basic shop tools and machines.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications
  • Experience with blueprints and practice using basic equipment, such as lathes, saws and grinders.
  • Applicant must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • At least 3 of experience in an Aerospace environment
  • Perform basic arithmetic calculations accurately (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, decimals and fractions)
  • Capable of visualizing a three-dimensional shape from a two-dimensional view and understanding symbols, flag notes, and general notes
  • Operate computing equipment
  • Drill, ream, hone and/or countersink straight and close tolerance holes
  • Use various types of hand tools and/or hand-held power tools, floor-mounted power tools and precision measuring tools
  • Make basic layouts on parts or assemblies in order to establish reference points and to check dimensions

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 25lbs
  • Must be available to work 2nd shift
  • Must be available to work overtime and weekends as needed
  • Must be able to for long periods of time:  Standing, climbing up and down ladders, bending, grasping, sitting, pulling, pushing, stooping, and stretching are generally required to perform the functions of this position.
