Manager - Core Infrastructure
The Core Infrastructure team provides the platform used to operate production and engineering services at Box. The team supports server selection, OS provisioning, configuration management, monitoring frameworks, virtualization, and directory services. This is a 24x7 production IT operations team responsible for many critical services. Box is seeking a manager to grow and develop the team as we scale and enhance the Box service. The role includes both tactical and strategic work. The ideal candidate is an experienced manager with a technical background who has worked in large-scale production computing environments.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead a team of systems administrators responsible for operating production data center services.
- Own critical data center services such as Puppet, DNS, OpenLDAP, Postfix, NTP, VMware, Splunk, Kickstart, and Nagios.
- Partner with Engineering and Operations leadership to support predictable project delivery.
- Foster an environment of collaboration and healthy debate on large-scale systems management topics.
- Support engineering productivity by scaling development compute resources.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years experience building and managing an IT operations team.
- Experience with large-scale management of Unix/Linux/Windows systems in a production computing environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
GOOD TO HAVE
- Background in operation of production web services in a SaaS environment.
- Experience evaluating and purchasing data center server hardware.
- Experience with scripting languages used at Box (Python, Bash, PowerShell, PHP).
- Experience with automated configuration management systems (eg, Puppet, Chef).
