Launch Operations Development Engineer | SpaceX

Launch Operations Development Engineer

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the design and development of mechanical launch systems for the Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy range of SpaceX rockets at our Cape Canaveral and Vandenberg facilities (position is based in Los Angeles).
  • Develop the world’s first fully automated launch system capable of rolling the vehicle to the pad, raising it to position, fueling the vehicle, and executing a full launch sequence within a 1-hour time window.
  • Develop processes to get flight hardware ready to launch within 24 hours.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate Degree in mechanical engineering with a minimum GPA of 3.5
  • At least two years of experience in one or more of the following: involvement with an outside the classroom project team designing and building mechanical structures, academic research on mechanical structures, or professional experience designing and analyzing mechanical structures.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Strong hands-on experience working on project teams or experience building and maintaining mechanical systems 
  • Experience working with fluids systems 
  • Experience designing mass efficient structures
  • Able to work well in an integrated collaborative team environment including daily interactions with technicians, engineers, and managers
  • Able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
  • Self-motivated and directed with keen attention to detail


Additional Requirements:

  • Able to travel to our launch sites in Florida and Central California as needed
