Launch Specialist (Command, Control and Instrumentation)

Overview:

  • Design, build, and maintain top-of-the-line ground support electronics and instrumentation systems at the Cape Canaveral Launch Complexes. This includes control systems for rocket propellants, fluids and gas systems, structural load sensors, and warning systems.
  • Continuously seek to make ground launch systems more efficient, robust, and safe by implementing creative and innovative solutions that will drive SpaceX’s space launch operations to be as commonplace as airline operations.
  • Work with fellow engineers in a multidisciplinary fashion to develop new, cutting-edge launch technologies that will ultimately support the launch of interplanetary space vehicles.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Interact closely with engineers and technicians in the field to provide designs, instructions, inspections, and troubleshooting assistance for system builds, operation, and maintenance
  • Troubleshoot and remedy instrumentation anomalies that may occur during a launch operation, and perform Root Cause Analysis of such anomalies to prevent re-occurrence
  • Analyze and improve existing systems to better survive the launch environment
  • Support automation efforts to make spacecraft processing and launches more efficient
  • Contribute to mission success of all SpaceX launches to the best of your abilities

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must have a minimum of 7 years of experience with design, programming and/or troubleshooting of PLCs
  • Must have an Associate's degree in Electrical Engineering

 

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Minimum of at least 5 years of work experience preferred with troubleshooting and/or maintenance of electrical systems
  • Circuit Design and Analysis Experience
  • Hands-on, field installation of electrical circuitry
  • Familiarity with electrical multi-meters and calibrators
  • Experience with:
    • Embedded Control Systems
    • High Speed Data Acquisition Systems
    • Pressure, Motion, Temperature, and Strain Transducers
  • Software Experience:
    • DIAdem
    • Matlab
    • Advanced Excel Skills
    • Visio
    • LabVIEW
    • Proficient in at least one Programming Language (C, C++, VBA, Java, Matlab, ect)

 

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be able to climb ladders/stairs and work in tight spaces
  • Must be able to lift at least 25 pounds
  • Must be able to operate a motor vehicle
  • Must be available to travel out-of-state for up to 30 continuous days (including weekends)
  • Must be willing to work significant overtime, including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Must be willing to work on-call
  • Must pass Cape Canaveral Air Force background check
