Launch Technician (Vehicle and Payload Avionics), Vandenberg | SpaceX

Launch Technician, Vehicle and Payload Avionics


Responsibilities:

  • Read and interpret planning documents, schematics, datasheets/manuals, drawings, blueprints and engineering sketches
  • Adjust, repair or replace faulty components of flight hardware, test and integration equipment
  • Install connectors, connector pins, terminals and lugs
  • Complete necessary wiring of the Electrical Ground Support Equipment for flight vehicle and payload
  • Collaborate with launch engineers to troubleshoot failures and issues derived from integration activities
  • Lay out, build, test, troubleshoot, repair and modify developmental and production electrical and electronic units, assemblies, components, parts, equipment and systems
  • Perform continuity checks and insulation testing, locate and correct wiring errors using measuring instruments such as multimeters and hi-pot testers
  • Perform lay out and wiring of electronics racks and junction boxes
  • Perform other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment


Basic Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Minimum three years of relevant professional experience working with electrical equipment


Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Operational knowledge of oscilloscopes, signal generators, power supplies, milliohmeters, megohmeters, multimeters, voltage calibrators, hi-pot testers, ordnance-safe ohmeters
  • Familiar with building up various connectors (D-SUB, BNC, D38999 Series I, II, III, etc) using crimp and solder terminations with various gauge wires
  • Familiar with building up wiring harnesses: wire stripping, heat shrink tubing, lacing, strain relief
  • Familiar with building up electrical boxes: wire routing, drilling and tapping, using knockout sets
  • Knowledge in Data Acquisition concepts, hardware and interfacing (SCXI and PXI based)
  • Familiar with fiber splicing and troubleshooting
  • Professional experience with Microsoft Windows Operating Systems and Microsoft Office


Additional Requirements:

  • General physical fitness is required for some work areas, flight hardware typically built in tight quarters and physical dexterity is required, also the ability to lift heavy objects is required in this position <50lbs
  • Ability to perform job duties that require standing, kneeling, crouching, twisting upper body, working in cramped positions in small openings and climbing hand over hand
  • Ability to work at elevated heights
