Manager of Facilities 

Overview:

  • SpaceX is preparing to launch at an incredible Launch tempo out of multiple launch complexes and processes more Payloads than ever.  The facilities and logistics manager is responsible for keeping the backbone infrastructure in operational working order from operational high-power and payload facility HVAC to the office modifications and maintenance to upper level site-planning.   The influence of this manager is far reaching and critical to the success of SpaceX Launch Operations.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team responsible for all facilities operations at the SpaceX Design, Engineering, and Production Facility; dedicated to ensure zero unplanned interruption in services to the employees and customers.  
  • The facility consists of production, data centers, security, engineering, and administrative buildings. 
  • Manage the maintenance, repair, and installation of all launch and mission support related infrastructure -- buildings, HVAC equipment, high power electrical systems, water infrastructure, and grounds.
  • Develop and administer an effective and efficient periodic maintenance program for launch and support facilities. Develop, plan and execute site improvement projects.
  • Monitor and direct all construction projects being performed at the facility to insure that the work is being performed correctly, on-budget, on-time, and with minimal interruption to the surrounding projects and staff.
  • Oversees contractors for facilities renovation projects including all mechanical, structural, HVAC, electrical, and water systems to ensure vendors meet corporate standards and deliver promised services and materials.
  • Monitoring and maintenance of the un-interruptible power supply system, which includes coordinating any service related calls on an as-needed basis.
  • Monitoring, maintenance and testing of the electrical generator systems, which includes weekly exercising of the equipment, coordinating regular service contract work, emergency repair work and keeping fuel levels with preservatives at the optimum.
  • Provide/lead on-call 24x7 support at all times including critical launch related activities.
  • Provide preventative space planning processes.

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an Accredited University.
  • Candidates must have a minimum 10 years of experience in Facilities Engineering and Management with the capability of both managing facilities related projects and providing hands-on mechanical and electrical support.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working with Microsoft applications - Excel, Outlook, etc. 

 

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Knowledge and understanding of building management and automated facilities monitoring systems and processes including: HVAC systems, fluid plumbing systems, high-power electrical systems, telecommunications infrastructure, fire suppression systems, generators, above and underground fuel storage systems, and other facility and grounds requirements
  • Previous experience with facilities capital planning and management
  • Must be organized and self-driven capable of working independently with little direction
  • Demonstrate innovative and futuristic thinking to drive continuous improvement
  • Demonstrate the ability to independently and effectively manage projects in an extremely fast paced and changing environment; keep projects on time, deal with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines and work with a diverse array of contacts

 

Additional Requirements:

  • Ability to provide 24x7 on-call support in emergency situations.
  • Position requires long hours and some nights and weekends.
  • Must be comfortable working in a high-stress environment balancing several projects at any given time, as well as able to absorb and re-plan for abrupt changes in strategic direction.
