Production Test Supervisor



Overview
:

This candidate should have a strong structures background in automotive, aircraft or aerospace industry.  Excellent technical understanding of structural, thermal, pressure and load testing.  In addition the candidate should be disciplined in workplace organization processes with knowledge of lean manufacturing principles. Critical movements of flight parts is also a key role. With responsibility for a team of approx. 15-25 technicians, daily interfaces with the groups Test Engineers and subject matter experts means exceptional interpersonal skills are a clear necessity, as is the ability to coach, guide, steer and drive the team to clearly defined metric goals.  Must lead by example and be a working Supervisor participating in the daily tasks and helping in any areas that are falling behind.  Capable of innovate ideas and continuously improving processes and manpower efficiency, utilization and productivity.



Responsibilities:

  • Supervise shop floor activity, including daily schedules and workflow. Maintain Smartsheet updates on future tests.
  • Resolve Test Generated issues.
  • Lead and manage a staff of ~30 technicians including all performance management related tasks.
  • Review work instructions and make change recommendations when needed.
  • Responsible for assessing & vetting the appropriate skillset needed.
  • Identifying training needs and developing training programs.
  • Provide required data & reporting to support departmental metrics and improvement objectives
  • Monitor labor hours and overtime, and implement improvement plans and time management with staff.
  • Accomplishes production results by communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, appraising job results.
  • Maintains work flow by monitoring steps of the process; setting processing variables; observing control points and equipment; monitoring personnel and resources; studying methods.
  • Develop and Implement cost reductions processes and efficiency improvement measures.
  • Initiating and fostering a spirit of cooperation within and between departments.
  • Production risk identification and mitigation.
  • Ensure product quality and conformance to specifications.
  • Maintain tooling and consumable supply inventory.
  • Improve area safety and efficiency through regular auditing and continuous improvement.
  • Continuously improving process and manpower efficiency, utilization and productivity.
  • Maintain and implement measures to improve 5S scores to a level of 40 or greater.

 



Basic Qualifications:

  • Two-year degree or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years in a leadership position.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in testing of structures or in a manufacturing environment.



Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Experience bringing teams and processes from development to production desirable.
  • Familiarity with Design for Manufacturability, Kaizen, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and Failure Mode Effects Analysis.
  • Ability to effectively communicate (verbal and written) with Engineering and Production.
  • Able to adapt to constant changing work assignments and fast paced work environment.
  • Excellent concentration and attention to detail with outstanding work efficiency and accuracy.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be willing to work overtime and weekends as needed.
  • Able to travel for short and extended trips as needed.
