Sr./Staff Systems Engineer (Austin, TX)
The Core Infrastructure team's systems and services are the foundation for everything we do. The team is responsible for managing and automating the hosting platform in Box data centers, including server provisioning, operating systems, configuration management, monitoring, directory services, and virtualization. As a Senior or Staff Operations Engineer, your role will be to deploy, manage, and automate infrastructure services shared by all systems running in Box data centers and public clouds.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Deep knowledge of Linux systems, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.
- Track record successfully solving problems in a repeatable, scalable way.
- Experience with common Internet services and protocols such as DNS, NTP, SMTP, LDAP, DHCP, and HTTP.
- Comfortable writing automation code in a language used by Box TechOps (Python, PHP, Puppet).
- Knowledge of data center server hardware.
- Team player with desire to serve customers and teammates.
- 5+ years experience in an IT operations role.
- Completion of a 4 year degree.
GOOD TO HAVE
- Experience using an automated configuration management system (we use Puppet).
- Experience managing version control systems (we use Git and Gerrit).
- Experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux, CentOS, or Scientific Linux.
- Experience operating OpenLDAP, BIND, Cobbler, Splunk, OpenStack, and/or Nagios.
