Supplier Quality Engineer - Supporting the North East Region
 
Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical support and quality oversight for quality issues related to Machined Parts, Valves, transducers and Castings for vendors located on the East Coast.
  • Work closely with Engineering, Procurement and Production teams to assure high quality parts and services that meet all requirements.
  • Develop and deploy continuous improvement initiatives to support supplier development and performance goals.  Performs supplier capability evaluations for initial approvals, ongoing surveillance, auditing and performance assessments.
  • Apply sound, systematic problem solving methodologies in identifying, prioritizing, communicating, and resolving quality issues.
  • Support Quality Management System policies and procedures, assess compliance to company and industry standards, initiate and lead continual improvement and Lean Manufacturing initiatives.
  • Maintains supplier performance metrics, scorecards and uses statistical analysis and problem solving techniques to determine product quality, to evaluate process capabilities and drive continual improvement.
  • Reviews discrepant outsourced hardware and supports material review process.
  • Drives supplier corrective and preventive action process to eliminate recurring non-conformances and assure high quality parts are delivered that meet all requirements.

 
Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical engineering field is required.
  • 3 years minimum relevant experience supporting special processes - anodizing, painting, heat treat, etc.
  • 2 years minimum experience with Quality Management Systems standards (AS9100 and ISO 9001).

 
Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Experience applying root cause analysis tools (8D, 5 why) to identify manufacturing problems related to machined or assembled components.
  • Strong knowledge and experience working with design data systems, manufacturing enterprise resource systems, electronic databases, and Microsoft applications is preferred.
  • ASQ CQE or CQM certification, AS9100 RABQSA trained auditor, lean six-sigma training is a plus.
  • Hands on experience surveying, auditing and assessing supplier capabilities and compliance to contract, specifications and industry standards is required.
  • Strong skills in GD&T (reading and interpreting blueprints).


Additional Requirements:

  • Must be detail oriented, organized, and demonstrate a high sense of urgency.
  • Must be open to working all required shift hours, including overtime, and weekends, as needed.
  • This role will be based out of the East Coast, but will require travel to the West Coast for meetings at SpaceX headquarters.
  • Independent, reliable, trustworthy, and self-driven - able to manage self from a remote location.
