[Atlassian] Android Developer

Android Developer

Location: Austin
Job Code: QHP-907
# of openings: 1

Description

Atlassian helps teams everywhere change the world through the power of software and we are looking for a part visionary, part technical wizard to help lead HipChat's client development teams. As a Client Architect you’ll be the technical authority on products that are revolutionizing the software industry and helping teams collaborate and create that magic in delivering their best work. Think Nasa launching the Roveron Mars or Cochlear gifting children born deaf with the ability to hear, your work directly impacts the products they use to advance humanity. The primary focus of your role will be to own the broad technical direction of HipChat's clients and ensure they are evolving and sustainable for the long term. You'll need a strong technical prowess with incredible coding ability across a diverse set of languages and technologies, a deep understanding of architecture and a ability to foresee and plan for changes, and be a great communicator. You need to be able to translate your deep technical skills to influence other developers, product managers and senior managers to ensure the team understands the vision, is onboard with it, and is moving towards achieving the product’s ongoing goals. With the rapidly changing software industry, you’ll be constantly learning and improving your own skills and knowledge, which will ultimately help to grow our products and advance humanity through the power of software.

More about you

As an Android Engineer you'll be responsible for the development of our Android mobile application which is used daily by tens of thousands of users worldwide. We are looking for someone with the experience needed to create a polished and stable application that is a joy to use. You will be supported by robust backend systems, mature protocols, and an experienced team with a strong desire to build the best chat and collaboration platform on the market.

The engineers we’re seeking will have great experience across Java (specifically with the Android ADK), building mobile applications for Android, multi-threading, front-end web technologies (HTML/CSS/JS), Agile development, and will have a strong user empathy and sense of UI aesthetic (and bonus points if you've had exposure to XMPP/Jabber, IRC, or other chat protocols). Deep understanding of how to build performant, decoupled, testable, maintainable code. We’d love if you have a good breadth of knowledge across-the-board, coupled with a deep area of expertise. You should be one of those naturally curious types, always looking to improve things, love dabbling in your own side-projects and learning new skills that are not a necessarily part of your normal day job. You’re probably someone who enjoys sharing knowledge with team-mates, asking for help when they need it, and at the end of the day, thrive on writing great code.

More about this team

In the past few years HipChat has become the chat tool loved by Quora, Instagram, Tumblr, Wired, and thousands of other great companies. We've been shipping features like crazy but need people to help us take it to the next level.

  • Huge impact - Thousands of the brightest teams rely on HipChat to bring their companies together and get work done. You'll be designing, building, and shipping features that they'll love.
  • Independence - We're hiring great people and letting them do what they do best. No handholding or micromanaging. Plus, we actually use our 20% time and ShipIt days to build cool stuff.
  • Part of a great company - Right now we're a small team inside Atlassian's beautiful San Francisco office. Atlassian lives by their strong company values and they have a customer list even more impressive than our own.
