As an Android developer, you will join a small, tight-knit group bringing our award-winning web-based cloud content management platform to mobile devices. Passion, excitement, and the drive to create amazing products are all musts; you want nothing more than to take advantage of cutting edge technology to delight customers. In addition, you will be working with the biggest device manufacturers and major carriers to define how phones and tablets interact with the cloud. We regularly meet with companies like Samsung to talk about and work on the future of content on mobile devices. As Android adoption has now eclipsed iOS it has become critically important to Box and it will only become more of a focus. We're looking for passionate engineers to drive new feature development on the Android platform. Our ideal candidate will have Java experience and the ability to learn new technologies and frameworks quickly. You will have product sensibilities and the ability to communicate with many people across departments. Joining Box means you'll be on the cutting edge of content management, leading the development of a critical application for over 5 million users and 60 thousand businesses. You'll also play an instrumental role in shaping the future of the cloud on mobile devices by working with the biggest players in the field. With our popular iOS devices, recent Android launch and our upcoming desktop presence, Box is poised to define how people access their cloud-based content across all devices.

Qualifications

    • 4-year degree from a top-notch Comptuer Science or comparable program
    • Exceptional Java development skills
    • 1+ years experience building Android native applications
    • Strong knowledge of related CS theory: MVC, OOP, threading
    • Experienced with learning new frameworks on a variety of platforms

Nice-to-have Skills

    • Experience developing highly rated and popular applications for Android
    • Web application work experience

What are examples of work that Android engineers have done at Airbnb?

  • We built a calendar management tool because keeping our systems synced with the ever-changing schedules of our hosts is critical.
  • We’ve internationalized the app into 18 languages.
  • Increasingly we are building functionality that only exists on mobile. Although there are a number of such things in flight, at the time of writing this, they hadn’t yet been shared publicly :-).

The following experience is relevant to us:

  • Experience shipping one or more Android apps, ideally currently available on Google Play.
  • Personal projects that show an aptitude for engineering and product sense.
  • Ability to work in areas outside of their usual comfort zone and get things done quickly.
