Overnight NOC Engineer

MailChimp is seeking NOC Engineers to join our Ops team. You’ll help build, maintain, and monitor systems that support millions of users across all of our products. We operate in a high-volume environment, handling over 6,000 requests/second and 10,000 new users/day.

Applicants should have outstanding attention to detail, independent troubleshooting skills, and be extremely reliable. We don't expect you to be familiar with the tools we use, but a strong desire to learn is critical. 

What you'll do:

• Handle ongoing datacenter setup and support (racking new servers, replacing failed hardware)
• Respond to alerts issued by our monitoring system
• Add or update monitoring as new services are added or requirements change
• Work directly with engineering teams to implement new services
• Maintain a record of problems and the methods used to solve them
• Work overnight to extend our coverage

Storage Engineer

MailChimp is seeking a storage engineer to join our infrastructure team. You will help build, tune, and monitor the storage layers that applications rely on to support over 7 million customers. We don't use SANs or single points of failure and are looking for someone that could own and improve our sharded storage tiers and help lead an effort to build infrastructure and data projects on Ceph and Openstack. You would work closely with all engineering teams to plan capacity and build tools to support our continued growth.

Applicants should have strong Linux experience, independent troubleshooting skills, and specific experience managing storage in large production systems. The role will cover hardware, filesystems, and software that provides storage to all other systems.

Skills and Experience

• Experience with Linux; storage related kernel and filesystem tuning
• Familiarity with hardware (HP especially), raid controllers, and disk layouts
• Exposure to Ceph and Openstack and building infrastructure on top of them
• Scripting and coding (Python, Bash, C, C++)
• Zabbix or other monitoring tools

Bonus if you have

• Managed large filesystems with hundreds of TB or PB
• Worked with more advanced filesystems such as ZFS
• Contributed to open source filesystems or projects like Ceph

Performance Engineer

We operate in a high volume environment and are growing rapidly, adding 10000+ new accounts/day with that rate increasing every week, year over year. On the infrastructure side we do interesting work to support that scale and growth rate, working closely with developers to build and support our applications.This is a new specialized role for our infrastructure team and you will get the opportunity to define new standards and practices in coordination with our quality, development, security and infrastructure engineers. You will help measure, test, and improve the performance and capacity of our systems and the applications they support.

Applicants should have strong Linux experience, independent troubleshooting skills, and a love for systematically eking performance out of large systems. We are looking for someone that can consider the entire stack and focus on making it work as efficiently as possible, building new tools and approaches to doing so when necessary.

Test Engineer

MailChimp's testing team is continuing to grow and our newest search is for a Test Engineer. You'll work with our QA, Ops and Development teams as you build and execute test plans for MailChimp and all of our auxiliary products. With your help our tools, tests and infrastructure will ensure that our users have the best experience possible while using our products. We're looking for someone who is passionate about all things testing with the experience and skill set to jump right in and make an impact.

Responsibilities

• Own design and implementation of automation framework and test organization with QA.
• Design and run automated functional tests for the frontend and backend of our web platform.
• Collaborate with our QA, Development, and Ops teams to define test architecture and implement testing as a part of continuous integration.
• Diagnose and report issues based on test failures.
• Work independently and communicate with the various teams involved with release process and testing.

Requirements

• 3+ years professional experience in test development in web based automation roles
• Experience with integration and regression testing frameworks.
• A demonstrable ability to write code in any language. C, C++, Java, Python, Ruby, PHP, whatever.
• Experience with testing frameworks like PHPUnit, JUnit, or Cucumber.
• Familiarity with the Page Object model design pattern.

On the infrastructure side we do interesting work to support that scale and growth rate, working closely with developers to build and support our applications.

Applicants should have strong Linux experience, operational MySQL experience, independent troubleshooting skills, and a love for automation and monitoring. Our core persistence layer consists of hundreds of horizontally sharded and paired Percona instances. We are seeking an experienced engineer who would be part of the core infrastructure team with a focus on maintaining and improving this crucial MySQL layer in addition to contributing to the systems that feed off of it (emailgenome.org, Elasticsearch, Postgres, Redis). We take a pragmatic and practical approach to our stacks using proven components while building our own logic and complexity on top of well understood building blocks. This is a large, well built setup with consistent hardware, configs, monitoring, backups, and tuning in place.

Skills and Experience

• Linux servers and kernel tuning
• Experience with modern MySQL at high volume: sharding, replication, backups, monitoring, tuning
• Knowledge of the current MySQL ecosystem and an interest in where things are headed
• Deep understanding of InnoDB performance, recovery, tuning, and backups
• Query and index performance optimizations
• Experience with replication and an understanding of all options and components involved
• Exposure to HA solutions
• Hands on experience with the Percona toolkit
• Scripting and coding (stored procedures, python, bash, ruby, php)
