Supplier Quality Engineer (Castings)

Responsibilities:

Provide technical support and quality oversight in the procurement of cast parts.
Work closely with Engineering, Procurement and Production teams to assure high quality parts and services that meet all requirements.
Develop and deploy continuous improvement initiatives to support supplier development and performance goals.
Performs supplier capability evaluations for initial approvals, ongoing surveillance, auditing and performance assessments with special emphasis on special processes, overall casting processes and mechanical property evaluation.
Performs First Article evaluations for prototype and hard tool components and works with M&P for establishment and surveillance of Fixed Foundry Processes.
Apply sound, systematic problem solving methodologies in identifying, prioritizing, communicating, and resolving quality issues.
Support Quality Management System policies and procedures, assess compliance to company and industry standards, initiate and lead continual improvement and Lean Manufacturing initiatives.
Maintains supplier performance metrics, scorecards and uses statistical analysis and problem solving techniques to determine product quality, to evaluate process capabilities and drive continual improvement.
Reviews discrepant outsourced hardware and supports material review process.
Drives supplier corrective and preventive action process to eliminate recurring non-conformances and assure high quality parts are delivered that meet all requirements.
Innovative, flexible thinker, capable of presenting sound, data-based arguments to Senior Executives to implement and drive change in the Supplier Quality Department.

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in a technical engineering field is required.
3 years minimum relevant experience supporting Machined or Cast components.
Practical experience with Quality Management Systems standards (AS9100 and ISO 9001).

Preferred Skills and Experience:

Experience applying root cause analysis tools to identify manufacturing problems in the foundry environment is preferred.
Experience with or knowledge of the sand and/or investment casting processes is strongly desired.
Experience utilizing industry specifications for complex manufacturing processes.
Basic knowledge and understanding of special processes, such as Heat Treat, Welding, Mechanical Testing and Non-Destructive Testing (NDT).
Strong knowledge and experience working with design data systems, manufacturing enterprise resource systems, electronic databases, and Microsoft applications is preferred.
ASQ CQE or CQM certification, AS9100 RABQSA trained auditor, lean six-sigma training is a plus.
Hands on experience surveying, auditing and assessing supplier capabilities and compliance to contract, specifications and industry standards is required.

Additional Requirements:

Must be detail oriented, organized, and demonstrate a high sense of urgency.
Position requires long hours and some nights and weekends.
Must be available to meet all travel requirements (minimum 50% travel).

Production Quality Engineer (F9 Structures) | SpaceX

PROCESS QUALITY ENGINEER (F9)

Direct Responsibilities:

Work closely with Product Quality Engineering to maintain consistency or alignment with intent of policies and processes across the organization and within the department.
Create and implement action plans to rectify localized and systemic breakdowns with Process engineering and Production leadership.
Work closely with Product Quality Engineering in purging suspect nonconforming material in inventory and across the organization.
Conduct internal audits to assure compliance to organizational, departmental, regulatory and customer policy.
Work closely with Product Quality Engineering in Developing and supporting area-specific Quality documentation for production activities, including Planning, Test, Manufacturing, Control Plans, Flow Charts, Gage Studies, and SPC charts.
Initiate and lead continuous improvement efforts.
Assist in the development and facilitation of Process FMEA’s and helps maintain risk management policies and programs.
Maintain required First Article Inspections and Detail Inspection Plans.
Coordinate and participate with Issue and Product Quality Engineering in localized material review (MRB), root cause, failure analysis, and corrective action (8D); utilize various analysis tools and make corrective action and containment recommendations.
Provide training on quality policies and techniques.
Lead/Coordinate with Issue and Product Quality Engineer to develop, analyze, and present process metrics including results from product and process yields to production and engineering to encourage design for manufacturability and quality.

Support Responsibilities:

Working with key contributors as required design, implement, and analyze new quality management processes; analyze existing processes to identify risk and implement improvement plans.
Work with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system to improve data process capabilities, controls, and efficiencies.
Deliver customer-required documentation and support customer interface as required.

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in an engineering field
At least 2 years of experience in Quality Assurance, Production or Manufacturing Engineering

Preferred Skills and Experience:

Experience with product concept and realization
Min 8 years of experience in Quality or Manufacturing Engineering with focus in Assembly, Integration, Supply Chain, Tooling, Electronics, Avionics, Propulsion Systems, or Composites is strongly desired
Ability to work in a fast-paced /cross-functional environment
ASQ Certification (CQM, CQE), RAB certified / trained auditor is a plus
Experience in a space launch environment highly desired

Additional Requirements:

Experience with Advanced Product Quality Planning, Failure modes and effects analysis, Statistical Process Control, Metrology, Design of Experiments, and Control Plans is required
Ability to work extended hours and weekends as required
Some travel may be required
Must be able to establish priorities, work independently, and proceed with objectives

Responsibilities:

Provide technical support and quality oversight for quality issues related to Machined Parts, Valves, transducers and Castings for vendors located on the East Coast.
Work closely with Engineering, Procurement and Production teams to assure high quality parts and services that meet all requirements.

Supplier Quality Engineer (Avionics)

Overview:
Supporting our suppliers is essential to ensuring SpaceX receives parts that are reliable and on-time. SpaceX has a world class team and is looking to grow to support increasing demand.

Responsibilities

Provide meaningful monthly supplier performance reports to all suppliers and ensure that these reports are effective in improving the SpaceX supply chain.
Implement and monitor advanced quality planning with existing and selected future product suppliers.
Assure supplier understanding of product and submission requirements.
Review supplier manufacturing processes and quality systems.
Implement and monitor the part qualification certification process with selected suppliers.
Function as liaison between purchasing, engineering, manufacturing and suppliers to resolve supplier quality issues and to provide technical support.
Determine cause of supplier quality problems and coordinate/implement effective and timely resolutions.
Improve quality performance of suppliers by conducting workshops at supplier locations, providing technical assistance in developing a quality system, or other technical support as required.
Maintain required documentation and files and provide appropriate quality metrics for management reviews.
Determine part critical characteristics and required process controls.
May participate as member or resource to product development teams.
Recommend technical product improvements evaluating risks and potential quality defect opportunities.
Provide support for Receiving Inspection by preparing and maintaining inspection plans as needed.
Participate in Material Review Board decisions.
Strong understanding of quality systems and processes.
Experience with Manufacturing Processes (Machine shops, PCB fabrication, cables/harnesses, etc.).
Knowledge of statistical techniques and methods (like DOE, Six Sigma, etc.).
Experience with MRP or ERP systems.

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering field required.
Must have a minimum of 2 years of experience with Manufacturing Processes related to avionics (Machine shops, PCB fabrication, cables/harnesses, etc.).
Must have a minimum of 2 years of experience with Quality Systems (ISO 9000/TS/AS9100).

Preferred skills and Experience:

Discipline approach to problem solving - 8D.
Highly Proficient in MS Office packages and report writing.
Technical capabilities include knowledge of 2D 'Blueprints' and 'Model drawings'.
Demonstrate knowledge of SQA processes i.e. PPAP; APQP; FAIR, etc.
High level of integrity (including demanding the truth; doing the right thing & drives diversity).
Innovation and Technical Excellence & Courage.
Drive for results and Customer satisfaction.
Develop and assist teams.
Demonstrate knowledge of lean concepts.

CUSTOMER CONTRACTS QUALITY ENGINEER

Responsibilities

Works directly with on-site customer residents, supports customer interchange meetings, and ensures timely delivery of Quality related contract items
Create and manage various Quality related documents associated contract requirements and to meet customer expectations
Tracks Quality related data deliverables, action items, and customer requests
Support Quality Management System policies and procedure documentation, perform internal and external auditing to assess compliance to company, customer and industry standards, generate and analyze performance analysis, initiate and lead continual improvement and Lean initiatives
Support customer related and/or issued Corrective Action Requests and the activities to ensure closure in a timely manner
Coordinate customer surveillance audits and arranges customer participation in internal and 3rd party audits
Thorough working knowledge of the AS/ISO family of standards especially AS9100

Basic Requirements

Bachelor Degree, preferably in technical or engineering field, is required
Minimum 5-10 years of experience in Quality or Manufacturing Engineering with focus in production operations is desired

Preferred Requirements

Experience implementing and improving automotive, medical or aerospace quality management policies and systems is a plus
Must have good communication and presentation skills and the ability to articulate aerospace hardware and systems problems to technical professionals to initiate resolutions.
Knowledge of control of nonconforming hardware, failure/root cause analysis, corrective and preventive action process
Must have the ability to work independently with a strong work ethic, detail oriented, possess initiative, and team oriented.
Demonstrated competence in working with diverse personnel to resolve issues and short deadlines
Highly motivated, quick thinker, able to convey ideas and present unconventional solutions to unique problems

Experience bringing teams and processes from development to production desirable
Demonstrated experience and ability to read, interpret and follow:

Responsibilities:

Work closely with Product Quality Engineering to maintain consistency across the organization.
Create and implement action plans to rectify localized and systemic process breakdowns.
Develop and support area-specific Quality documentation for production activities, including preparation of Manufacturing Planning, Test Procedures, Manufacturing Procedures, Quality Planning, Control Plans, Flow Charts, Gage Studies, and SPC charts.
Initiate and lead continual improvement initiatives.
Use statistical methods to introduce and lead improvement plans.
Develop sampling plans; establish statistical confidence by identifying and monitoring sample size and acceptable error.
Use Lean techniques to eliminate waste in production processes.
Assist in the development and facilitation of Process and Design FMEA’s and help maintain risk management policies and programs.
Develop, analyze, and present process metrics to production and senior management teams.
Maintain required First Article Inspections and Detail Inspection Plans.
Lead / facilitate high level material review, root cause, failure analysis, and corrective action; utilize various analysis tools and make corrective action and containment recommendations.
Provide training on quality policies and techniques.
Lead / facilitate complex problem identification, containment, and resolution.
Conduct internal audits and support external audits to find weaknesses and assess compliance to company, customer, and industry standards.
Design, implement, and analyze new quality management processes; analyze existing processes to identify risk and implement improvement plans.
Work with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system to improve process capabilities, controls, and efficiencies.
Develop, analyze, and present quality metrics to production and senior management teams.
Deliver customer-required documentation and support customer interface as required.
Support Critical Design Reviews (CDR).
Report results from product and process yield metrics to engineering and senior management to encourage design for manufacturability and quality.
Support the Material Review (MRB) process for all product design deviation nonconformances.

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor Degree in an engineering field.
2 + years of experience in Quality Assurance, Production or Manufacturing Engineering.
5+ years experience working with CNC Machines.
Experience with Advanced Product Quality Planning, Failure modes and effects analysis, Statistical Process Control, Metrology, Design of Experiments, or Control Plans is required.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

Experience with product concept and realization.
Min 8 years of experience in Quality or Manufacturing Engineering with focus in Assembly, Integration, Supply Chain, Tooling, Electronics, Avionics, Propulsion Systems, or Composites is strongly desired.
ASQ Certification (CQM, CQE), RAB certified / trained auditor is a plus.

Must be able to establish priorities, work independently, and proceed with objectives.
Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite applications.
Ability to work extended hours and weekends as required.
Some travel may be required.
