Avionics Test Technician (Vibration)

Responsibilities:

Self-monitor work progress against fast-paced area benchmarks and achieve on time delivery of all work
Working with design engineers to develop and document test procedures.
Using a wide range of test equipment including establishing and maintaining specialized test setups.
Performing tests and recording test results.
Working with design engineers to troubleshoot failures.
Record work performed on shop floor management system (ERP)
Perform verifications of flight hardware and documenting results in a clear, precise and complete manner.
Assist with the development of production processes for first time production runs.
Assist with area efficiency and 5S improvement projects
Responsible for some preventative maintenance activities on test equipment and data acquisition systems
Proficient in programing dynamic parameters in digital vibration control systems
Ability to setup and conduct vibration testing on electrodynamics shaker systems including:
Mechanical setup of vibration test fixtures
Changing shaker axis configurations
Instrumentation installation
Troubleshooting techniques
Able to conduct axis modifications
Ability to use mechanical hand tools and torque wrenches to setup test fixtures

Basic Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED required.
Minimum of 2 years practical lab experience performing vibration testing on electrodynamics vibrations systems and using digital vibration control systems
Experience with Test procedure development

Preferred Skills and Experience:

Associates Degree desired.
Strong team working skills and excellent attention to detail.
Software skills- LabVIEW or Python desired.
Familiarity in setting up and/or supporting other aspects of the environmental test lab such as shock testing, thermal and vacuum testing
Some experience of space, aviation, military or other high-reliability operating environments is highly desirable.

Additional Requirements:

Must be available for all shifts, willing to work overtime and weekends as needed
Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 lbs. unassisted
Standing for long periods of time, climbing up and down ladders, bending, grasping, sitting, pulling, pushing, stooping, and stretching are generally required to perform the functions of this position
Computer skills- familiarity with MS Office suite.

Avionics/Electronics Technician (Electro-Mechanical – 1st shift)

Responsibilities:

Mechanical / electrical assembly of PCB assemblies into product chassis
Building of small electrical sub-assemblies
Building up battery cell modules
Wire harnessing
Soldering and desoldering of through hole and SMT component
Support conformal coat, masking, epoxy application and coating
Running functional testing on units

Basic Qualifications:

Minimum of 3 years’ experience
Experience with Mechanical Hand Tools

Preferred Skills and Experience:

Conformal coat support experience utilizing NVOC, Urethane, Acrylic and Silicone based CC
Experience maintaining and programming of PVA Conformal Coat system
Current or past certification for NASA-STD-8739.3, IPC-610 or equivalent
AA Degree preferred

Additional Requirements:

Must be willing to work overtime and weekends as needed
Must be able to read blueprints, with excellent concentration and attention to detail
Must be able to lift and carry up to 25lbs

Non-Destructive Test Technician – Level II (Penetrant Testing)

Responsibilities:

Support Penetrant Testing needs for production and R&D parts
Interpret and review drawings as required.
Support any additional NDT requirements at SpaceX as needed to assure success of development efforts.

Basic Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED required
A minimum of 2 years of experience with Penetrant Testing.
Level II certification in PT.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

Experience in one or more of the following methods are a plus: ET, MT, RT, UT, UT phased array, Thermography, Laser Shearography or Acoustic Emissions.
Experience in CR, DR, CT and/or real-time methods is a plus
Completion of 40 hour IRRSP classroom training is preferred

Additional Requirements:

NDT work at SpaceX requires physical exertion, a successful candidate should be able to bend, lift, climb and work in confined spaces as needed to complete testing tasks
Ability to travel on occasion to our launch facilities in Vandenberg, Texas and Cape Canaveral.
Overtime and working weekends when necessary.

Launch Technician (Instrumentation & Range Ops), Cape

Responsibilities:

Install and terminate wiring to pad instrumentation and data acquisition systems
Install connectors, connector pins, terminals and lugs
Perform continuity checks, locate and correct wiring errors using measuring instruments such as ohmmeters and voltage calibrators
Perform work in support of fellow electronic technicians and engineering employees using shop assembly equipment and hand tools
Collaborate with design engineers to troubleshoot failures and issues derived from test data

Basic Qualifications:

High School Diploma or equivalent GED
At least 11 months of professional hands-on experience working with launch site instrumentation
At least 9 years of professional experience working as a technician
Professional experience working with instrumentation such as transducers, accelerometers, and thermocouples

Preferred Skills and Experience:

Experience with ISO9000
Experience working in a clean room
Experience with surface-mount technology
Ability to work effectively in a team environment under stress

NDT Technician - Level II Lead (Radiographic Testing) - 2nd Shift | SpaceX

NDT Level II – Radiogrphic Testing Lead Technician

Overview:

A NDE Level II Lead technician position at SpaceX sits within the quality control network supporting production as part of the NDE organization within the QA department. The NDE function is organized within focused production area cells alongside the production activities utilizing multiple and varied inspection methods to efficiently provide quality control and protect product reliability.

This is a 2^nd shift position situated within the Dragon Capsule manufacturing area where SpaceX utilizes the latest cutting edge metal joining methodologies such as Friction Stir Welding as well as more traditional fusion welding techniques for the construction of the current V1.0 cargo capsule and in the future the V2.0 crew capsule as part of NASA’s CCtcap contract for man missions. This role will involve primarily volumetric inspection utilizing a range of radiography techniques, as well as the utilization of Dye Penetrant and Visual techniques testing for near surface indication / defect identification.

Responsibilities:

Perform volumetric NDE inspections with advanced radiographic techniques : Traditional analogue, Computed and direct digital
Perform near surface NDE inspections with Dye Penetrant and Visual Inspection methods
Interpret and evaluate film / digital images
Optimization and manipulation of digital images for maximum clarity and accuracy in reaching conclusions
Communicate and report findings to production & Engineering
Interpret and review engineering drawings as required
Support the development of NDE inspection techniques for complex geometries
Assist in training and developing others within the team
Support research and development in to system qualification and certification for critical processes

Basic Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED
A minimum of 3 years of experience as a Level II Non-Destructive Technician
NAS 410 Level II certification in Radiography (RT) including additional Computed or Direct Digital certification
Radiation Safety trained and certified with IRRSP card
NAS 410 Level II certification in Dye Penetrant (PT) and Visual inspection (VT)

Preferred Skills and Experience:

Certified Weld Inspector Status (CWI) (Preferred but not essential)
Basic computer skills: Microsoft applications – word, power point, excel etc.
Operational experience of utilizing digital radiography systems for the inspection of weldments
Knowledge of Carestream, Virtual Media Integration (VMI), or Yxlon Y.Image x500 evaluation software
Experience in the operation of Computed panels / scanners and Direct Digital Panels
Experience in the inspection of advanced materials such as High Strength Aluminum Alloys, Precipitation hardened steels, Inconel Titanium & Maraging Steel (Super Alloys)
Experience in inspecting products made via manufacturing processes such as: Fusion, OTW, Friction Stir and Electron Beam welding. Castings and forgings a bonus.
Knowledge of NASA 5009 standards
Knowledge of AMS, AWS / ASME, ASTM etc

Composites Technician

Responsibilities:

Trimming and finishing of composite and composite metallic assemblies.
Assembly of structures including setup, bonding and fastener applications.
Experience with various types of hand tools or hand-held power tools.
Read and interpret engineering drawings, an understanding for drawing symbols, flag notes and general notes.
Use of solvents to prepare surfaces for sealing or assembly.
Laminate fabrication skills, including prepreg and wet layup.
Laminate assemblies by determining proper placement of composite materials into molds.
Prepare parts for bagging, including placement of bleeders, thermocouples, probes and vacuum connections. Check seals on completed bagged parts for leaks.
Vacuum bag processing, bonding, and oven/autoclave curing.
Make basic layouts on parts or assemblies in order to establish reference points and to check dimensions using calipers, micrometers, precision scales and torque wrenches.
Must be able to work per engineering drawings as well as both written and verbal instructions and work with engineers to develop composite hardware fabrication and assembly processes/tooling.
Layout and measure patterns on epoxy and polyurethane foams, aluminum and wood.
Cut and shape patterns using planes, shaves, files, sure foams, scrapers, routers, hotwires, mills and lathes.
Apply sealers, releases, base coats and finish coats using various spray equipment.
Perform product inspection and rework as required.

Basic Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED
Minimum of 2 years with layup, bonding or assembly of composites
Experience with composite tooling materials (Prepreg, wet layup)

Preferred Skills and Experience:

Reaming and honing and/or countersinking of uniform close tolerance holes in proper sequence while using the correct tool for the job (e.g., rivet gun and bucking bar, drill motor, power screwdriver, C-squeeze, ratchet wrench, nut runner).
Set up assemblies and parts in various types of processing and curing equipment such as an autoclave, oven or platens press in order to obtain desired set and cure.
Wet Layup methods such as RTM and VARTM.
Thermal Protection System (TPS).
Ability to operate a ply cutting machine.
Ability to operate a laser projector to layout laminated assemblies.
Ability to operate a laser tracker.
Apply sealant, alodine, primer, adhesives, and special finishes

Test Technician (Structures and Integration)

Overview:

Test Technicians at SpaceX get to assemble, troubleshoot, repair, and perform regular maintenance and work on integrated rocket hardware, including fuel tanks and integrated stages, as well as supporting test equipment. These technicians enjoy working outside at the rocket development facility, on our robust test stands, supporting structural test operations first-hand, as well as in the hangar where stage integration takes place. Test Technicians enjoy witnessing the rumbling of rocket engines throughout the day.

Responsibilities:

Ensure all structural test stand related equipment/services are performed on time, safely, and in a professional manner
Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair equipment and instrumentation as needed
Fabricate and repair structural hardware and test equipment
Collaborate with engineers to develop and document activities
Ensure all components and materials are clean and inspected according to Clean for Oxygen Service Standards
Operate and maintain hardware, high pressure systems and pumps, and other ancillary equipment, including pneumatic components and hydraulics
Develop novel ways site wide to streamline processes and increase the reliability of testing operations
Obtain and maintain licenses, operator permits or certifications as required
Perform a variety of related duties in support of structural testing and test stand programs
Monitor and maintain a reasonable inventory of cryogenic equipment, including transfer and storage dewars, transfer tubes, fittings, hoses, and other supplies
Maintain inventory of spare parts and equipment to repair or replace defective components
Process work orders and maintenance tickets
Prepare test articles and test stands and systems for test operations

Basic Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED
Experience working with and troubleshooting mechanical systems (professional work experience or personal experience will be considered)
Experience using power tools, hand tools, or heavy equipment

Preferred Skills and Experience:

Experience with structural test equipment/services is a plus
Experience with testing process and optimization of test processes
Experience with high performance systems and optimization of these systems
Experience in ground support equipment in aerospace industry preferred
Some experience in the space exploration industry, automotive, aviation, military or other high-reliability operating environment
Associates Degree in relevant field
Basic computer skills, including experience using MS Office suite
A&P License is a plus
Authorized Emission Specialist (AES) certification or training is a plus
Experience with crane operations
Knowledge of high vacuum systems is a plus
Knowledge of all types of bore scope inspection equipment
Knowledge of different fittings such as NPT and A/N
Ability to utilize power tools and hand tools as well as heavy equipment
A demonstrated ability in reading/understanding technical manuals, reports and schematics
Use of precision measuring instruments

Must be open to work 2nd Shift (3:30pm-2am).
Must be willing to work significant amount of overtime when needed.

ITAR Requirements:

ENVIRONMENTAL, HEALTH & SAFETY TECHNICIAN (Los Angeles)

Summary

SpaceX has a need for an Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Technicians that will be responsible for regulatory requirements relating to OSHA, RCRA,EPA,DOT and Air Force Range requirements. This position is an integral part of our launch team. Working with engineers and technicians daily to ensure our launch and landing site can support the largest rocket in the world with a launch frequency that is unparalleled in the industry. We provide a high pace work environment, requiring a think on your feet ability in order to provide creative solutions to some of the Universes most challenging engineering and compliance challenges.

Responsibilities:

Environmental

Responsible for environmental compliance with hazardous and non-hazardous waste management, including Department of Transportation (DOT) shipping manifest and tracking of hazardous waste shipments.
Storm water Construction/Industrial

Perform weekly storm water inspections per the SWPPP
Work with Facilities/Engineering to implement creative Best Management Practices (BMP’s) to improve storm water quality.
Take water samples during qualified rain events (3 per year) and send to Lab for analysis.

Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) regulatory Hazardous Waste handling requirements.

Monitor levels of hazardous waste at each department’s satellite accumulation area
Ensure all waste is properly labeled
Ensure all waste is properly stored, according to its classification.
Check and empty satellite accumulation stations.
- Ensure all stations are complaint with all SA requirements
- Ensure all stations are emptied per regulatory standards
Accurately record and maintain 90 day hazardous waste drum logs, hazardous waste sign in sheets, IPA and Acetone usage logs
Accurately perform all required Hazardous waste and Hazardous material storage area inspections
Coordinate waste shipments with Lead and waste disposal contractor.

Spill Response/Prevention
- Implement the Spill Prevention Countermeasures and Control Plan (SPCC) throughout the facility.
- Order and maintain adequate spill supplies: spill pads, empty drums, secondary containment, and other equipment necessary to maintain safe handling and correct disposal of hazardous waste
- Assist departments with proper disposal and spill prevention and clean up.
- Respond to any spills that are reported.
- Perform monthly SPCC inspections at various locations throughout the launch site.
- Perform environmental compliance and due diligence audits

Manage Hazardous Materials
- Ensure all hazardous material is labeled and stored properly in the storage areas
- Refill/replace IPA and Acetone drums as they get low
- Request product IPA, Acetone, Hydraulic fluid, Isopar, Coolant and TEA-TEB as inventories are depleted,
Air Pollution
- Perform monthly chemical inventory for used and received chemicals onsite.
- Ensure daily closure inspections are being performed on VOC containers throughout the site.

Health and Safety

Identify work place hazards, and unsafe conditions
Monitor employee exposure to job and chemical hazards
Assist in the implementation and compliance of site specific safety policies

Coordinate with the Safety Manager to develop and implement new safety policies as required.

Assist in the creation of job hazard analysis and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) assessments.
Conduct and/or coordinate employee safety and environmental training programs and assist with emergency response training drills.

Perform department specific safety surveys using inspection forms to ensure employees are utilizing safe work practices such as utilizing proper PPE, minimizing trip hazards, wearing fall protection etc.
Conduct daily health and safety oversight such as
- Assisting in critical operations to manage Hazard areas
- Assist in lifting operations to ensure safe work practices and proper PPE is being utilized
- Assist in proof, venting, and leak testing
Inspect and restock PPE stations around the facility
Ensure notification and corrective actions are put in place when any unsafe condition is presented or found throughout the site
Periodically check first aid cabinets and restock when necessary
Assist the EHS engineers in accident/mishap investigations when necessary
Assist in the respiratory protection program
- Conduct fit testing
- Perform inspections to ensure people are utilizing respirators properly and have appropriate cartridges for their task

Launch Operations

Hypergols
- Perform set ups for hypergol operations including personnel training, safety equipment check-out and placement, mixing neutralizer and instrument calibration
- Facilitate and perform safety walk downs with AF Range Safety for operation commencement
- Perform toxic vapor detection for Self Contained Atmospheric Protective Ensemble (SCAPE) operations
- Transfer and proper storage of Acutely Hazardous waste
- Coordinate with Base provider of Emergency Life Support Apparatus (ELSA’s) for training on and checkout of equipment
Explosives
- Properly display ordnance signage to match the classification of ordnance on-site and report to the Fire Dispatch Center
- Establish required clear areas for explosives operations
- Oversee explosives operations to ensure personnel safety and verify compliance with required Regulations
Vehicle, Payload, Erection, and TE Mating operations
- Establish clear areas and essential personnel
- Assist in pre-task briefings and identify evacuation routes for the operation
- Perform toxic vapor checks
- Layout PPE for employees to use during operations
Launch
- Establish clears for final system: TEA TEB, LOX flows, RP-1 bleed in, fireX and vehicle release
- Perform continuous vapor checks for during all operations
- Clear personnel of all areas of SLC-4E and preform 100% accountability of all personnel on the pad
- Participate on the Red team for emergency crew entry to assist in any anomalies prior to launch.

Inspections

Hazardous Waste Accumulation and Storage, Universal Waste Storage, Eye Wash/Shower, Outdoor Equipment Storm water collection areas, Construction SWPPP BMP, Industrial SWPPP BMP’s, Weekly Safety Inspections, First Aid Kits, Fire Extinguisher, Emergency Lighting/Exits, Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus , Spill Prevention Countermeasures and Control Plan, Fork Lift, Boom Lift, Scissor Lift, Fall protection Equipment, Lifting straps/Slings

Basic Qualifications:

Minimum of 2 years of experience implementing and overseeing environmental, health and safety disciplines required
Experience implementing/developing Health and Safety Plans and Policies.
Experience with emergency response crews in incidents involving hazardous and non-hazardous material releases to air, soil and water
Experience using Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook).

Preferred Skills and Experience:

Applicants should have demonstrated a strong propensity for hands-on work and attention to detail in either academic or career pursuits.
Ability to multi-task, to manage shifting priorities and to follow through on projects with minimal supervision, required.
Ability to work in a construction/industrial environment.
Ability to communicate well with technicians and engineers.
Strong organizational and communication skills are essential.

Additional Requirements:

The ability to work in a high-concentration, fast-paced environment.
Must be able to lift at least 30lbs.

Environmental Control and Life Support System Technician (ECLSS)

Responsibilities:

Responsible for cleaning of tools, valves, regulators etc. Responsible for maintaining a professional and neat work area.
Responsible for staging, installing, set-up, testing and de-staging of Research & Development and Production hardware
Repair and overhaul environmental systems intended for life support in space.
Operate test cell instrumentation and use computer network systems, as well as test units as described in the Test Instruction
Accept or reject test units based on calculated test data and results.
Performs work according to procedures, specifications and test instructions when available.
Work with Process Engineers to help develop work instructions and specifications when they are not already available

Support Production and Quality by exhibiting the highest standards in work and documentation.

Basic Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED
Minimum of 3 years of experience working on Aircraft, Aerospace engines, Life Support Systems, or any mix of the above.
Must have experience working with gaseous oxygen systems, GOX systems to include Aerospace, Military, or Aviation systems.
Must have experience in high pressure gas systems.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

LOX experience is helpful
Complete training in the staging, installation, removal and de-staging of Life Support Systems.
A & P license strongly desired.
5 years of aerospace mechanical experience is a plus.
Knowledge of pressure, temperature and flow measurement devices; mechanical and electrical systems; Life Support Systems.
Strong mathematical, basic computer, problem solving and decision making skills, and strong written and verbal communication skills.
The ability to work independently or as part of a team, meet aggressive schedules, operate and understand readouts on standard cell instrumentation: CRT screens, Daytronics & amp; Vibration Analyzer, and make full use of computer network systems.
Must be able to read detailed assembly instructions
Should be familiar with vacuum systems, to include vacuum ovens and high vacuum chambers.
Must be familiar with building gas handling systems using tubing from .125” to 2.0” dia, this will include bending, flaring and orbital tube welding.
Should be able to perform basic wiring, such as soldering, crimping and testing of insturmation.

Additional Requirements:

Ability to travel to different sites, as needed.
Must be able to work all shifts and available for overtime and weekends as needed.
Must be able to lift up to 25lbs. unassisted

IT Services Technician II

Responsibilities:

Provide 1st and 2nd tier support to SpaceX employees who require assistance with their information technology resources.
Install and configure computers, telephones, and other common technology/devices for new and existing SpaceX employees.
Provide after-hours or weekend support when necessary to perform high-risk or planned downtime of SpaceX IT systems for upgrades and maintenance.

We are currently looking for motivated, energetic, and enthusiastic launch technicians to maintain the launch pad mechanisms and fluid systems, and to perform flight vehicle assembly and launch preparation operations.

In addition to the required experience below, our ideal candidate is someone who shows personal initiative and maintains a smooth composure and good attitude whether they are working with flight hardware or working with a shovel.
