[Atlassian] Information Experience - UX Designer

Information Experience - UX Designer

Location: Sydney
Job Code: 2004
# of openings: 1

Description

Alternative Title: Information Experience - Strategist

At Atlassian, we look at things differently, and that includes the way we communicate technical information to our customers - an end-to-end journey beginning inside our products and ending with just enough documentation. We know that good writing and software are often not synonymous and are on a mission to change that. We’re on the hunt for someone passionate about crafting clear, relevant communications that resonate with and respect the user. You’ll deliver a great experience for customers as they choose, use and master our products. This role actively collaborates with marketing, development, training, design and support teams to ensure a holistic approach. Your job will be about creating gold-standard information experiences (whether in-product or via our supporting documentation) and the tools to help other Atlassians do the same. You'll be responsible for the UX of confluence.atlassian.com and the creation, success measuring and widespread adoption of the IX toolkit.

More about you

This job is for someone who thinks bigger than traditional software documentation. You can explain complex features within tiny amounts of product real estate and communicate value in a compelling, clear and effective way. If you have the following traits you will be a great fit: a knack for creatively engaging with audiences (no “me too” stuff), a need to work in a fast-paced environment, excellent project management skills, an ability to challenge yourself and others, and a love of using data to create better results. On any given day you can expect to be testing and validating content, engaging with product managers, developers and designers, and designing an information architecture that allows great content to scale.

More about our team

We understand that the right words, delivered in the right way, can change minds, spark ideas, solve problems, open doors, avoid trouble, form bonds, create joy, rescue, reassure and unlock tremendous potential. As such you have the ability to work with the majority of the Atlassian family; please review the following YouTube clips at the bottom of the page.

Show us something

Along with your resume, send or point us to an example of a great information experience - if you designed it, even better.

More about the perks

Our offices are open, highly collaborative and yes, fun! To support you at work (and play) we offer some killer perks: ample time off to relax and recharge, five paid volunteer days a year for your favorite cause, plenty of food and drinks (including our famous 'Charlie's bar'), ergonomic workstations with Aeron chairs, 20% work time for your passion projects, unique ShipIt days, a company paid trip after five years and more.

More about Atlassian

Software is changing the world, and we’re at the center of it all. With more than 35,000 global customers (including 85 of the Fortune 100) and a highly disruptive business model, we’re advancing the art of team collaboration with products like JIRA, Confluence and HipChat–and we’re just getting started. Driven by honest values, an amazing culture, and consistent revenue growth, we’re out to unleash the potential of every team. From Amsterdam and Austin to Sydney and San Francisco, we’re looking for people who are powered by passion and eager to do the best work of their lives in a highly autonomous yet collaborative, no B.S. environment.

[Atlassian] Principal UX Researcher

Principal UX Researcher

Location: Sydney
Job Code: QHP-473

Description

Do you live and breathe research, love working with people, and thrive on applying insights to influence product design and strategy? As a Principal UX Researcher you’ll be part of a dynamic group that does it all--early stage contextual inquiries, ethnography, and concept testing through usability studies and other methodology. This key role will set up and maintain research frameworks and internal engagement models for usability testing, surveys, interviews and requirements workshops. You’ll help teams to define success metrics, goals and testable hypotheses, and plan research activities. This job is hands-on too: you’ll be conducting user research activities, documenting and communicating results, making recommendations and providing insights, and helping teams to transform these outputs into prioritized work on product roadmaps. Ultimately, you’ll be helping various groups in the company become the best researchers they can be.

More about you

We’d love if you had 7+ years of hands-on experience as UX Researcher, a degree in Psychology (especially Organizational Psychology) or equivalent experience. It would be great if you had a variety of qualitative and quantitative research techniques under your belt, including usability testing and surveys, and a demonstrated ability to analyze research results and implement process improvements. It’s also helpful if you’re knowledgeable in the software industry and software development project life cycle. This position will need a strong communicator, able to influence and drive change. You know how to choose the right research to do at the right time, how to synthesize results into a coherent and truthful story, and how to create effective models that reflect those results, such as journey maps, process flows and personas. Bonus round points for previously building internal Research functions and teams!

[Atlassian] Senior UX Designer - Confluence

Senior UX Designer - Confluence

Location: Sydney
Job Code: QHP-170
# of openings: 1

Description

If you live and breathe the user experience, love solving problems and thrive on variety, Atlassian has a great opportunity for you. We're currently seeking a Sr. Designer to join our Confluence team in Sydney. Confluence is an industry leading collaboration tool intended to give teams a single place to share and find information, while minimizing unnecessary email and meetings. As a Senior UX Designer for Confluence, you'll be working on a variety of design challenges and will be involved in early stage research and ideation, implementation and iteration. Ultimately it’s about creating a killer user experience, whether for our customers or internally at Atlassian.

More about you

We love designers who are eager to deliver across the entire design process, and not just one aspect such as user research or visual design. We would love for you to be really good in at least one design-focused skill and have 5+ years of hands-on professional experience as a UX Designer or Interaction Designer, ideally with SaaS or complex web-based enterprise applications. Your colleagues probably describe you as a self-starter with your eye constantly on solutions, and someone who can easily step into the customer's shoes with the enthusiasm to create great experiences. You’ll also need strong facilitation and collaboration abilities, a flexible and friendly approach to working with teams, and the attitude to always strive for the best outcomes.

More about our team

In one of our design team off-sites, we attended 'Circus Training' where we learned to juggle and fly on a trapeze. It was intimidating for some of us, but we wanted to push ourselves outside of our comfort zone and not be afraid to fail. We are constantly growing, learning, adapting and trying new things. You’ll be joining a team that is crazy smart and very direct. We challenge each other constantly to improve our work and ask hard questions. We're dedicated to agile methodology and big believers in 'lean', which means we don’t do documentation for documentation's sake. We also know all too well the importance of validating assumptions about users and use various types of testing to prove ourselves right (or wrong). It’s all about improving our user’s experience—no matter who or where it is.

More about the perks

Our offices are open, highly collaborative and yes, fun! To support you at work (and play) we offer some killer perks: ample time off to relax and recharge, five paid volunteer days a year for your favorite cause, plenty of food and drinks (including beer), ergonomic workstations with Aeron chairs, 20% work time for your passion projects, unique ShipIt days, a company paid trip after five years and more.

[Atlassian] UX Design Lead

UX Design Lead

Location: Sydney
Job Code: QHP-498
# of openings: 1

Description

If you live and breathe the user experience, love solving problems and thrive on variety, Atlassian has a great opportunity. As a UX Design Lead, you'll work with a small group of designers on a specific product like JIRA, or on a specific focus area like Purchasing. You’ll be responsible for all parts of the Atlassian design process, including helping define vision, process and decisions, interaction design, user research and usability testing, and pixel-perfect quality assurance. You’ll also be the primary contact for design questions as you help other team designers go deep on the product to get the work done. You’ll make sure your product design is always as awesome and high quality as it can be, and have a constant vision for where your product is going in the future.

More about you

For starters, you have a passion for elegant design, along with a broad knowledge of the software industry and software development project lifecycles. We’d love if you have 5+ years of hands-on experience as a UX Designer, Experience Architect or Interaction Designer. With that, you have a strong understanding of HTML, JS and CSS. You are likely well-versed in various research and design techniques like qualitative research methods, personas, wireframing, task analysis, sketching, prototyping, and usability testing. Other skills that are great for the job: being a self starter, following your gut, keeping things simple, being enthusiastic, being able to set and execute on clear deadlines, and knowing the importance of defining success metrics upfront for a design. It’s also essential that you can influence and work well across different teams.

[Atlassian] Head of UX Design, JIRA

Head of UX Design, JIRA

Location: Sydney
Job Code: QHP-611
# of openings: 1

Description

Do you have the drive to move the experience of JIRA to the next level? Do you feel passionate about making your team better by providing support and guidance to your teammates in constructive ways that inspire, energize, and increase the quality of work they are doing?

We're looking for a very special Head of Design who wants the responsibility of defining, leading and executing the design strategy for JIRA, our flagship product. JIRA is used by over 25,000 companies and millions of users worldwide. You'll shape the product strategy and design, team structure and design process. You'll also be contributing to the broader growth and company culture of Atlassian.

Being a designer at Atlassian

Designers at Atlassian are responsible for the complete user experience, from early stage research and ideation, through implementation and iteration based on key success metrics. We're dedicated to agile methodology and are believers in 'lean', which means we despise documentation for documentation's sake. We are extremely self-driven, and do our very best at all times to validate assumptions about our users with various types of testing.

We are not looking for designers who just want to concentrate on one skill in design, such as user research or visual design – we need you to be eager to deliver across the entirety of the design process. We expect you to be really good in at least one design-focused skill. And while you'll be so good at this that you can teach the rest of us what you know, you also have to be interested to improve in many other skills, and humble enough to always reach out to learn more.

The way we design

  • Atlassian values: We deeply believe in the Atlassian values. You'll be surprised by how important these are, and by how often they will be quoted to you.
  • Do your homework: When you work on something, it's up to you to do the research. You need to be able to look at competitors, talk to people in the company, talk to our users and to people who've never heard of us before. All the time.
  • Gut: At some point, you will be faced with decisions, and no amount of research will be able to help you. At such points, we believe it is absolutely valid to trust your gut.
  • Simplify: We work on tools, and the best tools are simple. It doesn't mean that they have to be boring, but they have to be easy to grasp and easy to use. So design, then simplify, and then simplify some more.
  • Everybody can design: We do not have a monopoly on design, and we act accordingly. Many in Atlassian have a great sense of design, and instead of trying to beat them into submission, we educate them to be able to make better decisions for themselves.
  • You make the call, you own it: If you feel a decision needs to be made, make it, and then see where it takes you. It's important that you then own the decision and monitor it, and admit failure as enthusiastically as you claim victory.

The Head of Design, JIRA role

The Head of Design role is part of the global Design leadership team and the JIRA leadership team. This role is challenging, ever-changing, rewarding, and vital for our company strategy. You will need genuine design management abilities and sublime people management skills. Your most important function is to inspire your teams to build better products. You'll do this by combining your charming and pragmatic personality with your constant drive to understand, question and improve the experiences for our users. The main purposes of the role are to:

Grow, lead and manage the JIRA design team

Work with your team to take responsibility for all parts of the design, e.g. user research and usability testing, driving the design vision, design process and decisions, detailed interaction design, pixel perfect quality assurance, and seeing features and improvements through to release

Shape how your team works. We strive to follow a lean UX practice, so we count on everyone to continuously improve how we deliver our work

Define, lead and execute the design strategy for JIRA – help us set the next standard for work place productivity and collaboration

We're expecting you to bring 10+ years of hands-on professional experience as a designer and 5+ years of experience leading and managing a team. You enjoy leading people, but have the urge to get your hands back into the design from time to time. You're a no-bullshit communicator who listens carefully and communicates clearly. You strive for simplicity on the far side of complexity and you have a track record of shipping simple and beautiful products.
