Staff Software Engineer, Backend
Our Mission: Power Box features by building a secure, performing, scalable and simple service platform to manage, process and transport user data. Our rapid growth challenges us to continuously rethink, design and innovate our backend infrastructure. Managing billions of files and allowing people to access and collaborate on them from anywhere is a unique challenge. We are building secure and reliable services (storage, computing, messaging, data management, search, etc.) We need to support every feature at scale. We need to build software that all businesses, from small to Fortune 500 companies, trust with their most important documents. For all of that we need engineers that can embrace this challenge. Responsibilites
- Make key technical implementation decisions and guide engineering vision at Box
- Design new features and services
- Collaborate with other senior member of the team to define our backend architecture
- Evangelize good code and solid engineering practices
- Act as a leader in the group, guiding junior members and helping to solve technical issues
Qualifications
- Demonstrated expertise in building distributed, client/server systems especially in the web application space
- Strong knowledge of algorithms, data structures and performance optimization strategies
- Innovative mindset – we are in uncharted space and need novel solutions to build out the cloud
- Experience with highly object oriented codebases, and the ability to learn them quickly
- Experience with Java, Scala, C/C++
- Knowledge of MySQL, Hadoop, HBase, Solr preferred.
- 8+ years of professional web-based software development experience
