Integration Engineer, Cape
 
Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute procedures for the checkout and integration of Launch Flight hardware, customer spacecraft and Ground Support Equipment.
  • Lead launch vehicle and payload processing activities.
  • Help Develop, Build and Maintain vehicle & spacecraft payload processing facilities
  • Closely collaborate with engineering staff from other departments and highly skilled technicians on a daily basis.
  • You must be a self-starter that will seek out the solutions to technical problems with the local team along with the larger SpaceX workforce. Expect interactions with all departments and aspects of the rocket design.

 
Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Aerospace Engineering, or other closely related field

 
Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Experience with complex, multi-disciplinary system assemblies. Past work experience, internships, team/personal projects with aerospace vehicles/payloads, automotive, aircraft, marine assemblies qualify.
  • Experience with hypergols highly preferred
  • Strong background with hazardous chemical/material handling a plus
  • Must work well in a team environment.
  • Must be detail oriented.
  • Ability to perform work expectations and thrive in a high-stress environment.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and accurately with a wide range of people.
  • Ability to successfully complete a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI)
  • Experience in writing Test Plans and Test Procedures
  • Proficiency in or hands-on experience with one or more of the following:  launch vehicle or spacecraft integration; operations in 100,000 class or better clean rooms; test operations with gases/fluids; data acquisition setup and field measurements
  • Physical requirements:  Overall mental fitness; the ability to work in a high-concentration, high-stress environment; good response to challenges posed by short deadlines; prolonged mental concentration (under possible extended work hours)
  • Acute attention to detail
  • Problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • A positive, upbeat attitude

 
Additional Requirements:

  • General physical fitness is required, flight hardware typically is built in tight quarters and physical dexterity is required
  • Willingness to work outdoors
  • Occasional travel may be required.
  • Physical effort including standing, lifting and carrying moderately heavy materials or equipment (15 to 50 lbs.)
  • Typically 50 hour work weeks, schedule varies depending on site operational needs, flexibility required
  • Overtime is frequently required for particular tasks or launch campaigns

 
ITAR Requirements:

  • To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, applicant must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
