Quality Engineer - Tooling Operations
Responsibilities:
- Provide technical support and quality oversight in the procurement of Tooling parts, components and subassemblies.
- Working closely with Engineering, Procurement and Production teams to assure high quality parts and services that meet all requirements.
- Apply sound, systematic problem solving methodologies in identifying, prioritizing, communicating, and resolving quality issues.
- Support Quality Management System policies and procedures, assess compliance to company and industry standards, initiate and lead continual improvement and Lean Manufacturing initiatives.
- Develop and deploy continuous improvement initiatives to support supplier development and performance goals. Performs supplier capability evaluations for initial approvals, ongoing surveillance, auditing and performance assessments.
- Maintains supplier performance metrics, scorecards and uses statistical analysis and problem solving techniques to determine product quality, to evaluate process capabilities and drive continual improvement.
- Reviews discrepant outsourced hardware and supports material review process.
- Drives supplier corrective and preventive action process to eliminate recurring nonconformances and assure high quality parts are delivered that meet all requirements.
- Utilizes statistical control methods to monitor and improve process, reduce variation, cost and waste. Provide waste elimination suggestions and variation reduction initiatives.
- Leads and facilitates problem solving activities to address deficiencies in process performance goals.
- Develop, analyze and present process and quality metrics to production and senior management teams.
- Creates and maintains documentation; including the preparation of Control Plans, Flow Charts, Gage Studies, SPC Charts, and other miscellaneous documentation.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in an engineering field is required.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a Quality Assurance, Production or Manufacturing Engineering position.
- Minimum of 1 year experience working with Microsoft Office Suite applications.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Experience within a high-volume manufacturing or production environment.
- Experience with Advanced Product Quality Planning, Failure modes and effects analysis, Statistical Process Control, Metrology, Design of Experiments, and Control Plans is required.
- 5 years of experience in Quality or Manufacturing Engineering with focus in Tooling, Electronics, Avionics, Propulsion Systems, or Composites is strongly desired.
- ASQ Certification (CQM, CQE), RAB certified / trained auditor is a plus.
- Familiarity with mechanical processes in a manufacturing planning environment.
- Experience with planning software or ERP systems.
- Strong analytical, computer, and written skills.
- Must possess excellent blue print reading skills and familiarity with CAD Systems.
- Familiar with lean manufacturing procedures.
- 3D CAD system experience with Solidworks/CATIA, or MasterCAM.
- Team Center UG 7.5 is a plus.
- Excellent communication and team-building skills.
- Must be able to establish priorities, work independently, and proceed with objectives.
Additional Requirements:
- Must be able to work all required hours, shifts, overtime, and weekends, as necessary.
