[Atlassian] Principal UX Researcher

Principal UX Researcher

Location: Sydney
Job Code: QHP-473
# of openings: 1

Description

Do you live and breathe research, love working with people, and thrive on applying insights to influence product design and strategy? As a Principal UX Researcher you’ll be part of a dynamic group that does it all--early stage contextual inquiries, ethnography, and concept testing through usability studies and other methodology. This key role will set up and maintain research frameworks and internal engagement models for usability testing, surveys, interviews and requirements workshops. You’ll help teams to define success metrics, goals and testable hypotheses, and plan research activities. This job is hands-on too: you’ll be conducting user research activities, documenting and communicating results, making recommendations and providing insights, and helping teams to transform these outputs into prioritized work on product roadmaps. Ultimately, you’ll be helping various groups in the company become the best researchers they can be.

More about you

We’d love if you had 7+ years of hands-on experience as UX Researcher, a degree in Psychology (especially Organizational Psychology) or equivalent experience. It would be great if you had a variety of qualitative and quantitative research techniques under your belt, including usability testing and surveys, and a demonstrated ability to analyze research results and implement process improvements. It’s also helpful if you’re knowledgeable in the software industry and software development project life cycle. This position will need a strong communicator, able to influence and drive change. You know how to choose the right research to do at the right time, how to synthesize results into a coherent and truthful story, and how to create effective models that reflect those results, such as journey maps, process flows and personas. Bonus round points for previously building internal Research functions and teams!

More about our team

In one of our design team off-sites, we attended 'Circus Training' where we learned to juggle and fly on a trapeze. It was intimidating for some of us, but we wanted to push ourselves outside of our comfort zone and not be afraid to fail. We are constantly growing, learning, adapting and trying new things. You’ll be joining a team that is crazy smart and very direct. We challenge each other constantly to improve our work and ask hard questions. We're dedicated to agile methodology and big believers in 'lean', which means we don’t do documentation for documentation's sake. We also know all too well the importance of validating assumptions about users and use various types of testing to prove ourselves right (or wrong). It’s all about improving our user’s experience—no matter who or where it is.

More about the perks

Our offices are open, highly collaborative and yes, fun! To support you at work (and play) we offer some killer perks: ample time off to relax and recharge, five paid volunteer days a year for your favorite cause, plenty of food and drinks (including beer), ergonomic workstations with Aeron chairs, 20% work time for your passion projects, unique ShipIt days, a company paid trip after five years and more.
