[Atlassian] Systems Engineer

Systems Engineer

Location: Austin
Job Code: QHP-597
# of openings: 1

Description

Atlassian enables the potential in every team to advance humanity through the power of software. Our collaboration products help bring together diverse teams to build better software, together. We are looking for a systems engineer to join our Business Platforms team in Austin to help us analyze and improve our services and processes to deliver an unsurpassed level of of availability, scalability, and reliability whilst maintaining simplicity of design.

Your team

  • You'll report to the Development Team Lead for Customer Support Technology and will work as part of the development team.
  • You'll also work with other developers, business analysts, and product owners across the Business Platforms team to understand business and technical processes, gather requirements, and collaborate on the delivery of solutions.

What you'll do

  • Monitor and operate a large and growing production footprint of diverse application services.

  • Automate, automate, automate ...
  • Implement system management strategies optimized for rapid feedback and high availability.

  • Identify improvements in systems management in the development process.

  • Develop platform/infrastructural services.

  • Expand production analytics/monitoring.

Key skills

  • You live to automate… you get a kick out of your teammates asking “you mean it just… happens?"

  • You are familiar with scripting operating system and deployment tasks. They call you the "server whisperer".

  • New technologies are quickly tamed and put to practical use.

  • You have working experience in cloud management technologies, specifically with the AWS stack.

  • You have strong analytical and troubleshooting skills. You’re not afraid to roll up your sleeves and troubleshoot a complex bug from a coder’s perspective.

  • As the name implies, you know that great DevOps engineers excel in bridging the worlds of software development and systems management. You are comfortable communicating with both.

  • You are a security expert.

  • You know there’s a better way, and can balance today’s work with making improvements for the future.

You are/You have:

  • A motivated self-starter that can work independently as well as with remote teams
  • An idea contributor -- you see inefficient or unfriendly processes/systems, think of ways to improve them, and work to implement those ideas
  • A team player -- you believe in knowledge sharing, collaborative problem solving, the value of multiple perspectives, and the value of your insight and input in the collaborative process
  • 5+ years in general IT or software engineering industry experience

Bonus points

  • Prior experience with SOA
  • Prior experience with distributed caching and search technologies.
  • Proven experience running fault-tolerant, highly available, redundant applications, servicing high traffic volumes.

Our environment

Rather than experience with particular tools, we really want smart and capable people who can suggest new tools as needed. But here's what we're using today:

  • AWS, VMware

  • Java, Scala, node.js, perl, bash

  • Postgres

  • Chef
  • Atlassian tools (obviously): JIRA, Bamboo, BitBucket, Stash, HipChat, Confluence

More about the perks

Our offices are open, highly collaborative and yes, fun! To support you at work (and play) we offer some killer perks: ample time off to relax and recharge, five paid volunteer days a year for your favorite cause, plenty of food and drinks (including beer), ergonomic workstations with Aeron chairs, 20% work time for your passion projects, unique ShipIt days, a company paid trip after five years, generous employer-paid insurance coverage and more.
