As Legal Counsel at New Relic you will work with our small, whip-smart, collaborative legal team, a legal team that works on projects that directly impact all aspects of our company. We are looking for a passionate, talented, in-house attorney to focus on our commercial transactions and bring their licensing experience to New Relic. The right candidate is a trusted business advisor and is imaginative, proactive, collaborative, and ready to partner in initiatives that influence all aspects of our business.

This role is responsible for providing general legal advice to our sales and operations teams to facilitate commercial transactions. In addition to drafting, reviewing, and negotiating company contracts with customers and suppliers, this role will also focus on dealing with privacy laws, federal and state regulations, intellectual property rights, providing training on legal documentation to internal customers, creating forms, drafting policies, product counseling, and a variety of other issues that may arise.

The right candidate must have the following:

  • 5+ years of relevant legal experience, in-house and law firm experience.
  • Ability to understand complex contractual issues, assess risk, and provide concise business-focused legal advice.
  • Extensive background in drafting services agreements, sales contracts, licenses, intellectual property agreements, and SaaS agreements.
  • Excellent judgment and the ability to craft creative solutions.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and manage several simultaneous projects under deadline pressure.
  • Experience working with multiple types of internal business organizations and clients (ex. Finance, Sales, Engineering, Product Management, Marketing, Facilities, etc.).
  • Ability to self-start and lead projects with minimal supervision
  • Accredited law degree and California Bar membership.
