We are looking for a highly experienced attorney who excels at staying up to the minute on privacy and data protection and is ready for the next challenge in his/her career. You will design and establish state of the art privacy programs and contribute to making the New Relic’s growing Legal Department a trusted, valued business partner within the company.

Ideal candidates will have solid transactional and product counseling experience with a focus on privacy, compliance, data breach, information security, and data governance. Some of the things you’ll be working on:

  • Developing forward-looking privacy strategy, policies, and tools to engender trust in the areas of privacy and data usage
  • Positioning privacy practices as a competitive advantage internally
  • Employing “Privacy by Design” by integrating privacy reviews during multiple stages of the development process within product teams
  • Reviewing and negotiating inbound and outbound agreements and other privacy related documents and provisions 
  • Creating forms, agreements, policies, and internal documentation 
  • Working with HR on employee privacy issues – domestic and international 
  • Contributing to gap analysis against different regimes (ex. US Law, EU law, Safe Harbor, HIPPAA, COPPA, State laws and regulations (ex. CA and MA), FTC, OFAC) 
  • Maintaining company registrations
  • Supporting sales, security, engineering, product management, business development and human resources 
The right candidate will:
  • Have a minimum of 5 years of relevant privacy and transactional experience (a mix of in-house and law firm experience preferred)
  • Bring a depth of knowledge and experience with privacy, data security laws, and regulations 
  • Ability to translate that knowledge across the company to deliver relevant and actionable guidance to the business.
  • Possess excellent legal judgment and the ability to be both pragmatic/business-oriented and strategic.
  • Excel when working independently and collaboratively, and have a record of developing strong working relationships with a diverse client base
  • Have experience establishing and managing international datacenters (this would be a great plus)
  • Be comfortable in a fast-paced environment and successfully manage many projects simultaneously
  • Have a J.D. degree plus must be admitted to practice law and be a member in good standing of the California bar 
  • Quarterly travel may be required.
