What does the Host team do? 

On the Host team, we develop the tools, workflows, and education that help hundreds of thousands of Airbnb hosts list their spaces, attract business, and create inspiring, unique experiences for their guests.

 

Since we're accountable for the growth and quality of the supply component of Airbnb's two-sided marketplace, we use a robust mixture of user research, data analysis, rigorous A/B experimentation, and old-school dogfooding to guide our product decisions. Our development process is optimized for rapid iteration, leaning on testing and monitoring to mitigate risk.

What have Host Team engineers done at Airbnb?

• We rebuilt the interface that lets users list their space for the first time, resulting in a meaningful improvement to the rate of growth of new listings.
• We redesigned the listing management tools to make it easier for new hosts to set up their business while revealing power tools to more experienced hosts.
• Our review system is the backbone of our trust platform. After recognizing that some users are afraid to leave honest reviews for fear of retaliation, we redesigned the whole feature from the ground up across the web, iOS, and Android clients so that reviews are revealed only after both sides have written them.

The following experience is relevant to us:

• You have deep experience working with a web framework in a production environment.
• If you love working on the web frontend, you are proficient with HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript-related frameworks and tools like Backbone, React.js, and Gulp.
• If you love working on web service backends, you're proficient at designing sophisticated data models, writing performant and careful database queries, and identifying and removing performance bottlenecks. You never write production code without matching specs. Direct experience with Rails is a plus, but not a prerequisite.
• You have experience working collaboratively with designers, researchers, data scientists, and PMs
• You have experience mining data to make product decisions
