Sr./Staff Software Developer - Infrastructure Automation
TechOps provides the foundation of the Box content collaboration service. Automation is how we meet the demands of rapid growth, frequent changes and enhancements to infrastructure and services, and the need to control costs and become more efficient. Box is seeking a software developer who will focus on operations infrastructure automation spanning our development and production environments. The role involves architecture, design, and implementation of a complete platform used by engineering software developers and operations staff to create and run web services in datacenter and cloud hosting environments. The ideal candidate is a talented software developer, experienced in large scale production operation of web services.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design and create software to automate datacenter processes and service delivery.
- Evaluate and integrate open-source and commercial software tools to support large-scale systems management.
- Participate in architecture discussions around software solutions to Box's business needs.
- Collaborate with Engineering and Operations staff to meet complex cross-functional project requirements.
- Support and maintain software owned by the automation development team.
- Enhance engineering productivity through continuous improvement of development infrastructure and the deployment pipeline.
- Be an advocate for code quality and software development best practices.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years of relevant experience.
- Mastery of at least one programming language used for automation development at Box (Python, PHP, Scala).
- Demonstrated ability to learn new programming languages and technologies.
- Deep knowledge of Unix/Linux systems.
- Experience using Agile methodologies such as Scrum or Kanban in a development team.
- Familiarity with integrated build systems and testing frameworks.
- 4 year degree in Computer Science or a related field.
GOOD TO HAVE
- Background in operation of production web services in a SaaS environment.
- Experience with automated configuration management systems (eg, Puppet, Chef).
- Involvement in open-source technology projects.
