Staff Network Engineer
Box is looking for an exceptional Staff Network Engineer to join our network operations team. As a Staff Network Engineer, you will develop novel and efficient solutions to our network needs based on the integration and evaluation of multiple technical areas. You will own and be accountable for large and complicated projects. You will work with other teams to help build out and support our ever expanding data center domain and global network backbone. You will collaborate with a team of other Network Engineers to identify and solve multi-faceted problems. You will work with a Data Center Operations group that manages the physical environment of the data centers and the equipment in it, our IT team when helping to support our office network, and a large and talented Operations team to implement the network that powers Box services. To succeed in this team-oriented, multi-customer and fast paced environment, you will depend heavily on your organizational and people skills, with a focus on communicating with your peers to gain cooperation on project and initiatives as well as mentoring others. As the ideal candidate, you should be passionate, creative, flexible, have a strong work ethic, and enjoy solving thorny technical issues. Qualifications
- 15+ years production experience, preferably on a high traffic, multi megawatt web application data center network and/or a high traffic global network backbone
- Advanced experience in network design and implementation of common platforms such as Arista, Brocade, Cisco, Juniper
- Unmatched understanding of network protocols and the ability to quickly troubleshoot any issue escalated to you
- Demonstrated experience integrating open source monitoring software and specifying requirements for network support tools in a Linux/Unix environment
- Demonstrated experience defining standard processes and change control procedures Demonstrated experience writing or adapting automation tools
- Strong communication skills, including technical communications to diverse audiences Excellent project management skills • Excellent problem-solving skills
- Takes ownership of improvement opportunities and drives to completion
- Fantastic attitude and pride in workmanship
Responsibilities
- Partner with Operations leadership to influence priorities and objectives
- Work with the rest of the network operations team to define requirements for new network services and define new design patterns for them
- Gather requirements for new network equipment, construct requests for proposals and run technical reviews with multiple vendors
- Contribute to pro-active infrastructure design and architecture decisions
- Own the development of new methods and techniques we use to design an operate the network
- Manage technical projects, including assessing priorities and owning deliverables
- Work with vendors to diagnose and resolve unusually complex network device software and hardware problems
- Participate in an after hours on call rotation
