Structures Operations Engineer As a Structures Operations Engineer at SpaceX you will have the opportunity to utilize your knowledge, experience and creativity on developing novel solutions at the cutting edge of space technology. You will work on launch vehicles and spacecraft that will deliver satellites into earth orbit, ferry humans to and from the international space station and ultimately extend humanity’s reach beyond the earth and moon. You will have ownership of your work from the concept creation through the design and analysis phases and will also participate in the manufacturing and integration of the part used on our current and next generation vehicles.
Responsibilities:
- Represent structures engineering at launch and test sites during vehicle testing, processing and launch.
- Develop design improvements and improve reliability and reusability of our Falcon and Dragon vehicles.
- Drive reductions in vehicle processing time, and improve operational automation.
- Represent structures projects in interactions with launch, propulsion, avionics and software.
- Create novel solutions to technical challenges.
- Design and verify parts on our vehicles utilizing hand calculations, finite element analysis and design skills.
- Partner with Engineering & Manufacturing teams to generate ideas, designs and processes for current and next generation vehicles.
- Manage and track multiple priorities while maintaining a focus towards common project goals.
- Participate in design reviews.
- Perform post-test and post launch data analysis
Basic Qualifications:
- Minimum BS degree in Aerospace Engineering or a related engineering discipline
- Minimum 1 year of experience with ANSYS and/or FEMAP
Preferred Skills and Experiences:
- Strong communication skills, yet able to work independently
- Experience with Unigraphics (NX) and performing finite element analysis (FEA)
- Demonstrable problem solving skills
- Hands on design and fabrication experience
- Demonstrated the ability to drive projects to completion, and previous leadership experience
- Previous experience programming and/or detailed data analysis is a plus
- Experience with pressurized structures and/or other lightweight aerospace structures is a plus
- Experience with handling of large structures is a plus
- Experience working with composite materials is a plus
- Excellent grasp of Mechanical Engineering fundamentals
