Box is looking for a talented and experienced Senior Network Engineer to join our network operations team. As a Senior Network Engineer, you will develop creative and practical solutions to our network needs based on the integration and evaluation of multiple factors. You will work with other teams to help build out and support our ever expanding data center domain and global network backbone. You will collaborate with a team of other Network Engineers to identify and solve multi-faceted problems. You will work with a Data Center Operations group that manages the physical environment of the data centers and the equipment in it, our IT team when helping to support our office network, and a large and talented Operations team to implement the network that powers Box services. To succeed in this team-oriented, multi-customer and fast paced environment, you will depend heavily on your organizational and people skills, with a focus on communicating to transfer knowledge and guide understanding of network technology and objectives. As the ideal candidate, you should be passionate, creative, flexible, have a strong work ethic, and enjoy solving thorny technical issues. You should have a strong desire to learn, grow, and a commitment to rapidly improving your skillset. Qualifications

    • 10+ years production experience, preferably on a high traffic, multi megawatt web application data center network and/or a high traffic global network backbone 
    • Deep experience in network design and implementation of common platforms such as Arista, Brocade, Cisco, Juniper 
    • Expert understanding of network protocols and the ability to quickly troubleshoot any issue escalated to you 
    • Demonstrated experience integrating open source monitoring software and specifying requirements for network support tools in a Linux/Unix environment 
    • Demonstrated experience defining standard processes and change control procedures 
    • Demonstrated experience writing or adapting automation tools 
    • Strong communication skills 
    • Excellent organization skills 
    • Excellent problem-solving skills 
    • Strongly self-motivated and eager to solve problems 
    • Fantastic attitude and pride in workmanship

Requirements

    • Work with the rest of the network operations team to define requirements for new network services and define new design patterns for them 
    • Gather requirements for new network equipment, construct requests for proposals and run technical reviews with multiple vendors 
    • Work on other projects of diverse scope 
    • Translate assigned work into actionable steps, flexible to changing priorities 
    • Manage technical projects, including providing technical direction to others around the completion of project tasks 
    • Help develop the methods and techniques we use to design and operate the network 
    • Work with vendors to diagnose and resolve unusually complex network device software and hardware problems 
    • Work with the NOC to troubleshoot operational issues related to the network 
    • Participate in an after hours on call rotation
