Game Designer – Gacha & Japanese Mechanics | Wooga

こんにちは,

My name is Jun and I recently joined Wooga as the Country Manager for Japan. Prior to joining Wooga I spent many years working both as a Producer and Product Manager for popular games and platforms, so by now I would consider myself an expert on what makes a free-to-play game successful in Japan. I want to bring some of this knowledge to Wooga’s games, but need someone to work directly with the teams in Berlin to do this. If you have experience designing games with Gacha (ガチャ) and fusion/evolve mechanics and want to apply your expertise to a pipeline of exciting upcoming projects at Wooga, I would love to hear from you!

About Wooga

Based in Berlin, Europe's creative tech capital, our employees from 40 nations work together to develop top titles for a global audience. Working in independent teams, Wooga's signature approach to making great games for both web and mobile has made us one of the world's most popular developers.

About the job

In this role, you will own the creative vision of the specific game and design systems and features that appeal to the target audience. During prototyping you will design, test, and iterate on different pieces of the game using methods you see most fitting for getting feedback early and often. Later on, you will flesh out the detailed blueprints for fun, engaging gameplay and help the team build it. Please keep in mind that we would also consider freelancers/consultants for this role.

  • Design new game concepts implementing fusion and evolve game mechanics as well as events.
  • Design, scope and prototype features that tie together into fun and interesting core gameplay.
  • Craft interdependent meta-game systems that support player progression and engagement over months and years.
  • Bring your ideas all the way from shower thoughts into detailed designs, and help your teammates implement them.
  • Make key decisions regarding gameplay balancing and pacing.
  • Keep your eyes and ears open for player feedback and quantitative data for regular reality checks on reaching the target audience.
  • Convey fusion and evolve game mechanics to your team members and colleagues.

Who we are looking for

  • You understand all aspects of mobile Asian free-to-play gaming (3+ years experience and experience with CCGs).
  • You know how to adopt fusion/evolve game mechanics to individual markets and know how to implement and handle events.
  • You are familiar with prototyping and gathering feedback early and often.
  • You have experience in systems and feature design in the free-to-play space.
  • You are a team player but you can communicate clearly and get straight to the point.
  • Freelancing is also an option for us.

Why join us

  • Create content that millions of players will enjoy every day.
  • Agile and quick decision-making culture.
  • International and dynamic environment dedicated to making great games.
  • Live in Berlin!
