Payload Propulsion Fluids Engineer, Cape
Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute procedures for the checkout and integration of Launch Flight hardware, customer spacecraft and Ground Support Equipment.
- Lead launch vehicle and payload processing activities
- Help develop, build and maintain vehicle & spacecraft payload processing facilities
- Closely collaborate with engineering staff from other departments and highly skilled technicians on a daily basis.
- You must be a self-starter that will seek out the solutions to technical problems with the local team along with the larger SpaceX workforce. Expect interactions with all departments and aspects of the rocket design.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelors of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Aerospace Engineering, or other closely related field
- Minimum of 5 years of experience designing and/or operating high pressure fluid systems
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Experience with complex, multi-disciplinary system assemblies. Past work experience, internships, team/personal projects with aerospace vehicles/payloads, automotive, aircraft, marine assemblies qualify.
- Experience with hypergols highly preferred
- Strong background with hazardous chemical/material handling a plus
- Able to work well in a team environment
- Detail oriented
- Able to perform work expectations and thrive in a high-stress environment
- Able to communicate clearly and accurately with a wide range of people.
- Able to successfully complete a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI)
- Experience in writing Test Plans and Test Procedures
- Proficiency in or hands-on experience with one or more of the following: launch vehicle or spacecraft integration; operations in 100,000 class or better clean rooms; test operations with gases/fluids; data acquisition setup and field measurements
- Acute attention to detail
- Problem solving and critical thinking skills
- A positive, upbeat attitude
Additional Requirements:
- General physical fitness is required, flight hardware typically is built in tight quarters and physical dexterity is required
- Willingness to work outdoor
- Occasional travel may be required
- Physical effort including standing, lifting and carrying moderately heavy materials or equipment (15 to 50 lbs)
- Typically 50 hour work weeks, schedule varies depending on site operational needs, flexibility required
- Overtime is frequently required for particular tasks or launch campaigns
- Must pass Cape Canaveral Air Force background check
ITAR Requirements:
- To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, applicant must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
