Ops Intern (Spring/Summer 2015)
MailChimp is seeking Infrastructure Interns to join our Ops team for Spring/Summer 2015. You’ll work alongside our team to learn how we build, maintain, and monitor systems that support millions of users across all of our products. We operate in a high-volume environment, handling over 5,000 requests/second and 10,000 new users/day.
Applicants should have familiarity with Linux, independent troubleshooting skills, and a love for automation, monitoring, and configuration management.
Our Ops team is looking for interns interested in:
- Linux
- Networking and TCP/IP
- Writing code related to systems automation (Python, Ruby, Bash)
- Monitoring and event correlation
- Configuration management
- Continuous integration and delivery
- Logging and data pipelines
- Performance tuning and load testing systems
You'll learn how we:
- Scale to handle 5,000 requests/second
- Monitor effectively to maintain 99.96% uptime
- Use tools like Puppet to manage over 500 servers
- Optimize bare metal provisioning to take minutes, not hours
Helpful if you have:
- Some experience using Linux command line
- Familiarity with HTTP as a protocol
- Used Python previously
