Industrial Gas Specialist
Responsibilities:
- Assists in testing, repairing, and also installing gas equipment
- Cuts, threads, and joins pipe as directed, using hand tools
- Positions heavy equipment, connects regulators to test stands, and turns screw adjustments until gauges indicate that inlet and outlet pressures meet specifications
- Reports hazardous field situations, disconnects and/or removes defective or unauthorized meters, using hand tools
- Lubricate wearing surfaces of mechanical parts, using oils or other lubricants
- Turns valves to allow measured amounts of air or gas to pass through meters at specified flow rates
- Attaches air hoses to meter inlets; then plugs outlets and observes gauges for pressure losses in order to test internal seams for leaks
- Disassembles and repairs mechanical control devices or valves, such as regulators, thermostats, or hydrants, using power tools, hand tools, and cutting torches
- Turns valves to allow measured amounts of air or gas to pass through meters at specified flow rates
- Shuts off service and notifies repair crews when major repairs are required, such as the replacement of underground pipes or wiring
Basic Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years of industrial gas technician, industrial gas specialist, or similar position experience.
- Must be able to read and understand parts books, service manuals related to the industrial gas field.
- Strong plumbing and general contractor trade skills.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- An applied mechanical or technical background, with the ability to think and work their way through difficult projects or problems.
- Experience working with health and safety issues in high pressured systems.
Additional Requirements:
- Must be able to climb ladders and work in tight spaces
- Uses hands for simple grasping, pushing and pulling and fine manipulation
- Frequently bending, squatting and climbing

- To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, applicant must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
