Our small engineering team works on challenging problems every day. We iterate quickly by using continuous deployment, which means that every commit goes live on our production servers within minutes, no matter what time it is. Our engineers focus on creating polished products and writing high quality code by designing APIs and abstractions that are extensible and maintainable. Everyone on the engineering team has a huge impact on our product and our company.

Here are some of the projects our engineering team works on:

  • Product features: Building a powerful rich-text editor, incentivizing people to write high quality answers, and creating new features to drive engagement and help the product grow
  • Quality: Classifying content through machine learning and improving our ranking algorithms to encourage high quality answers as we scale
  • Feed: Designing user homepage feeds to be fast but also relevant, optimizing to show the best content based on voting, views, diversity, social graph, and other ranking signals
  • Search: Architecting our real-time search backend, improving relevance for searches across all content, detecting duplicate questions, and understanding question and query intent
  • Mobile: Designing cross-platform APIs and building iOS and Android applications for Quora
  • Infrastructure: Continuous deployment of fast, cost-efficient, self-healing and scalable architectures to serve our ever-growing global traffic and storage needs

Things we look for:

  • B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Computer Science or an equivalent field
  • Extraordinary software engineering talent
  • Knowledge of Python, Javascript, or C++, or the ability to learn them quickly
  • Experience with web applications, databases, distributed systems, or machine learning a plus
  • A passion for learning and always improving yourself and the team around you
  • Love of the Quora product
